Adblue & Nox sensor

How old is the car? Three options but far more qualified people on MB forum, it’s my view
1, email Mercedes direct asking if found to be a NOX sensor will they replace it free of charge. It’s a known issue. They will insist dealer diagnose the issue. £200 is way to high but agree with them if it is that issue they will cover all costs.

2, go to dealer with same approach, agree with them in advance if this is the NOX will they contact Merc to recover the costs.

3, some legislation changed with dealers (car giant etc) in 2015 and sales of goods etc. I’m sure they are forced to cover issues upto a year regardless of warranty. Again more informed may clear this up or search google.

Sure MB have an emissions warranty ask the dealer 50k miles or 4 years again in no expert.

Hi thanks for reply car is 2015 plate only 23,900 on clock with fmbsh
The report was sent to car giant directly from Halfords as they appointed them to do diagnostic

As previously stated Mercedes will not accept a third party [ Halfords] diagnosis for a component replacement for which they may be asked to bear the cost. In addition the latest version of NOx sensor may need a software update available only through the MB STAR diagnosis system.
At the same time they will check the car's service history/mileage to see if it meets their criteria for " fmbsh" Third party vendors have been known to be "economical" with their interpretation of that description in the past.

Sounds right, if you want car giant to do it use Halfords. I would go to MB and ask up front will I be charged if it is the NOX sensor.

I thought from your first post that MB had already diagnosed the fault as the NOx sensor ? In which case, you should take it in to have the sensor(s) replaced.

For info, the ECO will not function if the engine light is lit.
My ECO mode E220 W212 works with CEL on. I have OBD code pointing to fault on NOx sensor "Specified position not reached".

My ECO mode E220 W212 works with CEL on. I have OBD code pointing to fault on NOx sensor "Specified position not reached".
My ECO mode also used to go green and Stop/Start worked ok when I had the EML on due to both NOx sensors gone, booked into MB dealer and they replaced them FOC, and it was a year out of warranty, result!!

i have a mercedes bluetec e220 15 reg 22,000 mileage showed yellow eco light for good few months. never got the right answer from mb but i percevered in the end told them to do a diagnostic they came back to me saying they will pay for two nox sensors asked me to pay for the battery. dont let them fob you off by saying its not warm in the car or the climate is cold outside etc etc. Note my car was no longer under warranty. this was in the UK

It looks like MB is trying to hide the fact that there is an issue with Adblue system on their vehicles

Just done full service in MB at 57k
My E220 never suffered any issues.
Once the service has been done, I have been told that the recall on NOX sensor also has been fixed.
I was a bit surprised as no earlier notification, no problems with the car, but ok. As it was a recall. Just drove 200miles after the service and the AdBlue issue came on. Vehicle counting 400miles after which won’t be possible to start it. The engine management light on.
Called MB directly, sending a roadside to assist.... wonder what’s the outcome.

I believe the NOX sensor which was replaced as a recall , should not be changed.
overall too many people having the same issue. Very suspicious.

Does anyone know when the W221 update will be release

Thx

Update for what? The engine software?

Reg Dec 2014. 6 weeks ago local garage wanted to charge me for NOX sensor, I recall over £500. Also boot failed and wanted £600 + Wrote to Mercedes’s asking for failure rates etc and they asked me to return to the garage and it will be replaced for free. These parts should not have a warranty they should be under a guarantee.

We also run an astra with 115k never missed a beat. Really regret buying a merc nothing but issues.
Under the consumer credit act I'm sure they have a duty of care for things they sell.

I’m not lucky with o2 sensor and cabin noise. Merc are having none of it. Book it in that’s all I get.

I would book it in if I had faith in the technical ability of the garage. I asked what could the noise be and could it be related to replacing the NOX sensor.....don’t know book it in.

I asked is the o2 related to the NOX issue......book it in. What’s the life of the o2..... book it in.

I will gladly book in if I’m reassured it could be x y or z each costing x y z. Wouldn’t even quote to replace o2 sensor without doing the diagnostic work at £100. I said at my risk it’s this sensor and was told I need to pay for diagnostic first.
I have received exactly the same treatment. Diagnosis hundred pounds plus VAT! No guarantee they will find the exact fault, and there is no way of me understanding whether they're just bullshitting me or giving me an honest diagnosis. Given that it could cost £1000 to replace, not a great position to be in...
