Hi, I'm the proud new owner of a 2008 W211 E class.

I'd like to add a small subwoofer to the factory stereo (comand, no HK).

Can anyone advise what the best earth point is and if it's possible to get a switched remote from the boot anywhere?

Thanks all

Welcome

There are pleNty of earth points around the boot, the battery is fitted there :). As for switched lives, try fuse 13 in the rear SAM unit on the left hand of the boot. Test with a meter, it is a switched live on my 2008 but it may vary.

I assume you want the switched live just as a "wake up" supply and supplying the entire current draw?

Interesting thread, I've got a decent stereo in mine but have always had issues with the earth. I'm using the battery earth point just below the drivers side tail light.

Are there any better earth points available? I don't want to start drilling new earth points lol

Hi thanks for replying.

Yes I just want a switched live to wake up the amplifier. I will take the main live direct from the battery of course. With regards to the earth could you suggest which would be best to avoid interferance?

Thank you.

I would think there are many possibilities, the bolts holding down the seats for instance would have a good earth, I think there are a number of earth points behind the rear SAMas well.

If you are putting the amp in the boot, then use the Earth on the battery. Make sure its a very good connection. You can use switched live from a 12V socket. Have a look at some of the active sub boxes. They take speaker level input, built in amp and are quite easy to install. Blam an outstanding active Sub.

Thank you mate, will have a look over the weekend.

Hi Alfie, Are you suggesting earthing the amplifier directly to the battery negative terminal?

I've never heard of Blam, will look into it now.

Thanks all

Yes.

Blam are reasonably new and they are designed by Mr Bonneville. He designed all the Focal speakers ;-)

When I installed a subwoofer in my E55, I installed the amp on the underside of the parcel shelf and used a screw thing which (I think) was hanging down and the shortest ground cable I could. Just make sure you take the surface off so that the ground is touching pure clean metal and bolt it up tight together. Then paint over with paint to protect from rusting (I used my touch-up brush).

I never had any problems and certainly no whining through the system.
