Hi there,

A newbie question on phones and ipods

Firstly picking up the car today a 2005 W211 E320CDI, with I understand factory fit Comand. It is also phone prepared with the UHI (?) plug/socket in the armrest.

Being impatient, and not able to wait for a few hours 'til I've got it, some quick questions following reading up on here, to ensure I've got my head around this.

- I have a 3GS iphone. If I fit that adapter whilst it has BT, it will only work with iphone's?

- As mine is the only iPhone (wife's and my work ones are not) if above is correct then I'm better fitting a bluetooth cradle? Is the Viseoo better than/as good as MB's own, and its cheaper. Which model would work? The phone use in the car will not be daily - nice to have rather than need to have.

- I assume that either adapter will only allow the phone functions, if i want music from the iphone (or indeed ipod) I need the ipod/media adapter? I read this is a pain to fit?

- Lastly is there likely to be an Aux input socket on this model - OK I could look when I get it shortly, but as I said I'm impatient :)

I have a 3GS connected to a Viseeo-MB2. This allows the steering controls and commend screen to function as well as muting the radio and synching address book etc.

For the itunes stuff I plugged a phono lead into the iphone to the Aux socket (make sure you have one) it is in the glovebox on the passenger door side.

With this method you do not get a track display on the command screen and the steering wheel buttons will not change tracks.

The one thing to note with an iPhone is that the Mercedes SAP adaptor will not work: the iPhone doesn't support the remote SIM protocol.

The Viseeo units work with more than one phone so you can pair them all.

+1 for the Viseoo, you can pair upto 4 phones on mine. The first one paired will be picked up firstly and if your wife's driving on her own then hers ( as the second paired) will be picked up.

Thanks for all the advice.

Another quicky if I may - I've discovered a Bluetooth option on the Comand under Serv. It will search and find my iPhone - i can then input a pair code which it then asks the iphone for but then nothing after input on the phone.

Slightly confused as I assumed any Bluetooth would come off whatever holder bought, so not clear why Comand has this Bluetooth option or its purpose.

Any ideas, or is it part of the 'holder' so to speak - i.e. needs one to function fully. It is not immediately clear to me from the handbook.

It needs the cradle. The bluetooth on the Comand unit is for personal headsets it wont pair to a phone.

Comand units didnt have full bluetooth connectivity till 2008.

We recommend the Mercedes HFP cradle, it pairs with everything, its perfectly reliable and you can get used ones for £100 on ebay.

Thanks everyone

Only if you have a mid 2004 onwards vehicle. The MB one is hopeless with the CD based Comand. It echos terribly at the other end of the connection but sounds fine in the car. For earlier vehicles go for the Viseeo.
