Hi

Looking for a bit of advice here, story is:-

A colleague who I work with is trading in his car back to the main dealer for a new one, I have approached the dealer to see if I could buy it at a reasonable trade price (I couldn’t purchase it from my colleague, he had already done the deal)

Dealer has said the car will go straight out to trade bidders and I can’t buy it at trade, he said if I wanted it I would have to pay full retail price, which is 2k more than I had offered saying that they would have to fully service it, one year’s warranty etc, see below

Mercedes-Benz UK - Approved Used - Approved Used

The car is 90,000 miles which is a bit high for retail, I know the car from new so that doesn’t bother me, and it has been fully serviced by the main dealer.

I have found out that the price I have offered was the trade in price, so the dealer is working on 2 K profit which I can understand, it would cost me about £700 for a warranty and £300 for a service anyway.

I have a couple of questions

1) My colleague has told me he has a list of advisory points which was bought up at the last service (in January), can I insist these are all fixed before I collect the car, or will they say they are only advisory,

2)Will they stamp the service book and reset the service interval on the dash, when I was trying to get the car at trade and they said they would have to service it, I said that I knew it was only just serviced but they said that didn’t matter, not too sure if the gearbox oil has been changed, at that mileage can I get them to do that if it hasn’t been done

3) have heard somewhere that there is Comand update for the satnav to the 7 figure postcode, if there is can I get them to do that as well.

Sorry it’s long winded but I want to do my homework

There must be 100's of other used ones around. do your home work and I am sure you will find a one or two owner car with fmdsh and not been painted and at the same mony..

It does seem to me that the dealer is holding all the aces here, its a pity you didnt work in conjuction with your colleague to get the jiggle room your after. As the other post has said, plenty of decent motors about.....what is it your after may I ask?

The date for his delivery was bought forward, he didn't know I was interested, I was thinking about it for too long, it was only when he said to me on Tuesday that he was picking it up on Thursday by that time it was too late.
There isn't much of a choice over here, I would normally travel over to the south of England for my cars, I know this car has been well looked after from new.
I would definitely not touch a Diesel over here unless I new it from new, too much laundered fuel with acid, fullers earth and whatever else is used to get the dye out
