Advice pls, considering C200 sport auto

Just to add, it's had 5 owners (4 previous + current).

I don't think those seats are original - look like re-trims?

Looks like it's got windy rear windows?

I might be wrong, but I can't see the cruise control stalk?

Hasn't got the staggered C36 wheels.

I don't mean to go on, but the one part that also would concern me is

I know that a lot of independant car retailers quote similar caveats to 'cover' themselves, but if you are paying £6K for a 'very low mileage?' C200 you would want to be absolutely sure of its authenticity? This combined with the seats (re-trim?) would concern me.

Oh, and no mention of any service history. :(

I could be wrong, but I am getting more and more worried about the price. If you want to check the originality of the car out, try and get the VIN number and you could look it up on the link in the 'Favourites' section.

Again, as I mentioned earlier, as it's not far away (Farnborough) then have a look if you have time, but have another look through autotrader etc, I reckon you could do a lot better for the money. :)

Cheers,

Will

Sounds expensive to me.

You could get a nice 190E 2.5-16 for that.

Not saying that this is what I would buy, but it seems a slightly better and more genuine car for the money. (I know it's miles away too! ;) )

Cheers, :)

Will, I'm most impressed. How did you find the dealer from the information provided by D24? Some great detective work there (unless you have been PM'ing each other) :)

Too Expensive...And possibly dodgy!

Hi mate,

You should have a look at the BCA car auctions up in Blackbushe which is only up the road from you.

I've just bought mine, a week ago from there.

You can subscribe to their auction view and search for cars that are coming up, or just head up on a Mon/Wed/Fri.

Whilst I agree with the others that it is expensive, it is probably worth about 4.5 - 5 if really genuine.

For 6K you could have got a 99T C180 Classic with 50K miles.

cheers

Sparky
(Or I could sell you mine for 6K :D  :D )

Not exactly detective work lol!

He lives in Fleet (not a million miles away from me) :)

I just clicked on Autotrader, which comes up with some defaults (eg, cars within 40 miles from my postcode)

Stumbled accross that car straight away.

Autotrader shows the dealers website link, where there are more photos and details.

I quickly punched in the plate to see what it brought up on that RAC checker. ;)

I sold it to a mate .. who loves it, and couldn't really believe he got that much car for the money.

Once I put it on eBay, I had about 5 people wanting to view it. And they would have paid 6k too. So, it was a fair price.

Have a look at Sean's (C240 Sport 97) car that was traded in/sold. No offence intended, but that took a while to go, and seemed like an excellent car.

Good Luck, :)

I would bet a lot of money that they are re-trims and not that good either

All, and especially Will, thanks for advice - no offence taken - came here for good old honest opinions!! Gave the guy another call to discuss further and NOT helpful at all so will walk away from that one.
I'll keep eyes open but really looking for something that will cruise (my 316i tourer is just a bit gutless, revs v.highly and it a little agricultural), looks good (the C class of that age is a good looking car) and is comfortable & reliable, plus the proper wheels are driven. Doesn't need AMG kit (but it did look good and a bit different!). Doesn't have to go like stink as have a Boxster for that job :-). Around £5k and semi decent MPG...
Thanks again all, and I'll doubtless be back for another round of honest opinions again shortly!!
