Advicee on laptops please

I played briefly with a Chromebook in PCWorld a while back, I was quite impressed.

I've played with most on the market and they're all pretty good, and a few are super things. Chrome OS is great :thumb:

Ok. Definitely last comment.

I read about chrome books. Then didn't think they would do what I needed them to do?!?! Must look again.

What sort of things do you need it to do? If you can be clear about what you actually need, rather than think about what you have had, you may be surprised.

Google Apps is fantastic and there are some great Chrome OS apps too.

So many people say Google Apps can't do what they need it to, for example Sheets can't do what Excel can, which is absolutely true, but unless they're a super-duper power user, then they've probably not used the features which Excel has and Sheets doesn't have!

Well worth a look.

Happy Dell user. The touch screen was only another £30 and I have an i3 processor and 4G memory and it goes well enough. Use it for not a lot but Office runs ok as does Picasa and some mapping software.

Barely use the touchscreen - thought I'd use it more with having a tablet, but actually I use the tablet less now I have a sensible PC.

Some of the "appified" software is a bit flakey though, like the dodgy mail software. They have had a few goes at getting Windows 8 right and basically having tried to over-simplify, they've put all the Windows 7 stuff back.

Another happy dell latitude user here goes with me all over the world and us bombproof except for the first ssd that failed which was down to a faulty batch

Also have chrome book for everyday use surfing etc but it's useless for docs or spreadsheets too much if a faff and not powerful enough same with editing software

Horses for courses as they say

Fed up with replacing laptops every 18mths (HP's & Tosh's, I have a pile :() I went all Mac and so far I'd say I was saving money.

Likewise. House is full of old unused Thinkpads and Dells. I finally made the domestic switch in 2010 and haven't looked back since. Although, it has to be said, I still need to use a PC (Parallels) for my corporate consultancy work.
