W124 300E
Hello all,

I have a W124 300E from Decmber 1992, in which the air conditioning has never worked during my ownership.

I would now like to get his rectified, and I wondered if anybody had used Aircon Direct http://www.ac4cars.co.uk/ before and could recommend them.

Secondly, does anybody know if my 300E would have the older R12 refrigerant or the newer R134a refrigerant, and how easy is it to convert the older type to the newer type?

Many thanks in advance for your help,

KK

in 3 cars over 5 years ive never had 1 that worked to the "ice cold" that other cars have

anyone reccomend anyone in cambs that refils quiet cheaply and comes to your house?

You don't say what year your 124 is? Mine is 1988 and had the old refrigerant. I had it converted and serviced four years ago and it has worked beautifully ever since. Very cold (-7), but variable with the climate control, very nice!!
I had it done by an A/C guy in Chesham. Let me know if you want his number.

Its a 300E from December 1992 - I did say as much in the first line.

How much did your conversion cost, and yes I would like to have the number of the guy in Chesham please.

Thanks,
KK

'I have a W124 300E from Decmber 1992' - I understood that to mean you only had the car since then.
I can't remember the cost of the conversion and I am not at home for a few days to check out old invoices.

The guy's name is Paul and these are his details:

P W Auto Electrics
Unit 2/Berkhampstead Rd, Chesham, HP5 3ET

My A/C didn't work when I got the car, but I gased it myself not really expecting it to work and it did now blows Ice cold  I used a can of R134

I posted this a couple of years ago:

"My 1990 300E has been converted to r134a with the Retro Pro kit, costing about £50 +VAT on top of the normal servicing charge:

http://tinyurl.com/3jsmjd

The job was done by Aircool AC Ltd (Beds: 0845 009 2345), who have installed plenty of them with no problems.

It looks like R12 has been illegal since 01/01/2001, and that seems to be illegal to use, not just to acquire."

The system is still working fine. Aircool will probably be happy to travel to Cambs.

Thanks all, I'll give it a go and lets hope that its not the condensor that is knackered.

Cheers
KK
