I've checked the Russian site which tells me that the correct filters for the SL60 are the same as those for the 500SL, is this the case? I ask because I've also been told that there are AMG specific air filters. If this is the case, should they be used in preference to the standard filters and does anyone have the part number?

Thanks folks.

They are the standard items - part number is A0030946104 - you need two at around £10 each.

If Green Filters make them for the SL60 it is worth putting them on.

I've had a look at the site...seems they allow the engine to draw more air in. Is that a good idea? My feeling is that as the AMG guys did not have the bean-counters breathing down their necks, and being perfectionists, they would have used a different air filter had they thought it was needed. Could well be wrong.

Got 2 green cotton filters on the E55 and I know that C43AMG has them on his motor tool
They do make a difference.

Could I ask what sort of a difference to they make and do you think they justify the extra cost? (aprox 4X MB filters)

Cheers.

Slightly more power, plus once you have initially purchased them, they can simply be cleaned out, rather than chucked out.

DO NOT USE ANY OIL ON THEM !!!

Thanks, that's helpful....surprising they don't put this info on their site..!!

Where can I read info on Green Filters. Is there a website ?

What do you mean with this?
I have a Green cotton filter in my Clio and service it with their kit that includes a spray can of green (what else!?:D ) coloured oil.
Is there any other type of Green made filter?

A lot of Mercedes owners have had problems with hot-wire MAF sensors failing when using oil-based filters.

But then you cannot use a cotton filter without oil - its like a sieve with a hole added to it:eek: !
The filter mesh is no thinner than cotton gauze. It needs the special oil to be a filter.
Anyway, on 200 to 320 CDI engines, the MAF is allready soiled by the nearby crankcase vent and gets pretty dirty with oil. If used correctly, these cotton filters will not release their oil - i never had any oil film on my Clio's post filter ducting. I am planning on fitting a K&N on my car and asked them about these MAF concerns. Here's a transcript of their reply:

Our filter doesn’t loose the oil so it can’t damage the MAS. The only thing which could happen is when you clean the filter you put the oil on to soon. So when the filter is still wet from the cleaning. When you put the oil onto a wet filter the oil isn’t absorbed by the cotton. But when you follow the cleaning instructions it can’t go wrong.

Think I'll stick with the originals......
Me 2. It's clear that oil and Mas do not get on well.

Makes you wonder why they don't fit the crank breather pipes after the MAF or MAS, then it's a clear suck back into the inlet manifold.

It would make sense but...then there would be a bit of "uncounted" air going in the engine.

Thanks Dieselman. I will read the article you posted and get back to the discussion on this subject.

The breather is positioned after the MAs but the oil vapour rises back onto the M when the engien is off.AS
