So many questions and comments!

OK, according to MB a system should be checked at least once a year. If required, it should be regassed.

The cost was approx £65 plus vat, so about £75 at a dealer?

Jay, I agree. Perhaps thats why in nearly six years mine never did need topping up. I wasn't a member of the "leave it on all the time" school of thought but will leave it on now.

Finally, it seems on the W210 model that if the refridgerant / lubricant reaches a critical level, it shuts the system down to avoid damage. I know this because when the EC light was switched off, the compressor didn't fire up. It does now.

   Those New E's have far too many gadgets :p

*UpDate*

Just had the car in the stealer today for a/c regassing..now a/c blowing chilled air..it's been a bliss compared to the last week not having the a/c whilst the weather is hot... :D

would have to monitor it for a few days to ensure that there's no leaks or anything!

I think I need to get my AC regassed. Its not blowing cold and also the temperature goes up and down like a yoyo. I think possible the temperature sensor my be blocked or faulty.

Same problem for me on my main Stealership bought only last week X reg w210, they tried to charge me £160 to regass unitil I kicked up the the car should have been supplied in full working order in the first place!

* A/C not working...again!!!!! *

Grrr!!!!!!

After a round of golf today, the weather was warm, got into the car, put in the most coolest setting and guess what no chilled air....must been a leak somewhere

Funny thing was when I had it checked and regassed on Monday the stealer said that everything was ok

Another dreadful trip to the stealer on Monday it is....now have to brace myself for the worse!!

Well, booked in tomorrow for a check up. Spoke to the engineer and he reckons its a bit low on gas. I've not had it recharged in nearly 3 years.

Not sure what the durability of the systems are for MB, but my mum's 1995 BMW compact has never had a recharge and it's blowing colder air than my E240 (4.8 years old) and my VW Polo (2.9 years old)

Well, I said in jest to Jaymanek that I was relieved that it wasn't something expensive like a condensor or anything.

Turns out it IS the condensor! Spent a weekend four up in a Mercedes with no aircon in hot sunshine - awful!

Part has been on order for over a week now - not happy!

Be aware if you need re-gassing, there is a leak somewhere, and if it's not fixed then you'll need another re-gas soon. My Audi needed an annual re-gas after the pipes got a bit old.
