Alarm query

Hi Guys,

My recent 230TE purchase has got a Laserline 968 alarm fitted. I have a remote fob that arms/disarms the alarm and operates the central locking.

I wanted to get a spare fob done for this system and contacted a company called BridgeWater Electronics to get a spare one done. No problem they said, I gave them the 6 digit code and they coded me one up. He said that I would have to tune it in  by adjusting a little capacitor on the circuit board and vary it slightly until I get the correct frequency.

Anyway, I gave it a go and after an hour of tweaking I gave up. I contacted him again and said that if I sent him my current working remote could he replicate this... ? Unfortunately that isn't possible and he says he would need the alarm module to set it up. (I presume this is the receiver part of the system?)

I said I'll have a look and see what I can do. This is where I hope someone will be able to assist me.

When I open the bonnet there is a black box with Laserline written on it towards the front on the left hand side. It is about 200mm long and 100mm wide. I thought this might be it, but then thought it could be the siren...

Any suggestions? Could both the siren and the alarm module be in the same box?

Presumably I will need to disconnect the battery before I unplug and remove it?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Another thought were you trying to adjust the variable capacitor with a metal screwdriver rather than a plastic trimmer?

Thanks for the replies Grober.

I used the plastic toothpick from my swiss army knife.

I just phoned Laserline who were very helpful. It turns out that it is a complete unit, so yes I can remove it. The only snag is that I won't be able to drive it for a few days. :(

Just thought I'd post a quick update on this.

I removed the alarm module which was fairly straight forward. It was attached to a bracket in the engine bay via 2 M6 bolts. Unsrew these and the module is free.

The little sleeve on the left is a waterproof cover that protects the connections to the unit. This simply slides back and you can unplug the connections.

I posted it off the Bridgewater Electronics Monday and they setup my new remote then and sent it back via courier the same day(Tuesday). I received it today. I just thought I'd mention that as you don't find many companies these days that offer such a good service.

Here's the new remote. A genuine laserline for £42.

Brilliant!

PS - if you do attempt to do this, disarm the system. Disconnect the battery and then proceed to remove it. Then reconnect it, (keep your new remote handy), re-connect the battery. ALARM goes OFF! Try not to bang your head on the bonnet... Grrr! Press the button to stop the alarm going off, and tighten the connection to the battery. Job done.

Glad things worked out for you. Bridgewater certainly seem to be a good company on that showing.
