Unbeleiveable !!

I trek up to Mercedes Great West Road , after phoning them about my alarm box. Anyway to cut a long story short, they look at it and tell me its a Scorpion Alarm, and i need to contact them.

I ring Scorpion to be told that that particular alarm, they can't make remotes for any more, i will need to have a new alarm at the cost of £300 !!!!
I asked if they knew anyone who can make a uni-remote for it, and Scorpion say that you cant get the boards any more !

At the end of the day it is just a signal saying "turn on" or "turn off", you can get a universal tv remote for £9.99, so why can't you get an alarm remote, Mercedes said "oh its 12 years old they don't make parts for it any more" to which i replied that they still sell parts for 25 year old cars so whats the difference.....

Does anyone have a box and remote from an old written off car ? would one of you electronics geniuses out there make me one ? I'm desperate to get this fixed and just don't have the cash for a whole new system !!

Someone help please !!!!

Hmmm, any half decent alarm should have a coded signal to say "on" or "off" to stop people recording the signal as you lock the car and walk away. That makes it a bit more complicated than just a TV remote. I guess the best thing for you to do is try a local car stereo/alarm shop that fits alarms, see if there is anything they can do. I would think they may be able to just change your alarm's main box, and use a new scorpion box which they can plug in to the existing sensors... that should save some of the cost.

According to MB GWR the 300 notes is just for a new box and two remotes !!

I'm getting a sense of deja-vu :) Have you read the following thread?

...Anyone had experience of this or can you advise on alarm specialist etc.
I've used Tech-Tronics Ltd., based in Trafford Park, Manchester. They were very good when I had to replace a Cobra alarm keyfob on my previous car, 1986 190E.

Tel: 0161 872 6275
Fax: 0161 877 0081

Mind you, it was way back in 1999 when I last used them.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks steve, i had read it, but went to Scorpion direct.

I feel like going and chucking myself under a bus, all the way to MB GWR, to be told no we can't do it. Then the afternoon spent trying to sort it out !

Am talking to a guy called Dave at www.alarmremotes.co.uk, seems helpful and seems to know his onions, will let you know how i get on !!

I have contacted an alarm specialit in derby have given them the details. I.e need replacement fob. scorpion do not make. They said bring it over. So just got to arrange to get over there will be £35 - £60.

I just looked up alarm specialists in the yellow pages.

Shaun, do you have an existing fob ? is that what they want you to bring over ? or the ecu in the car ?

I don't have a fob, and therein lies the problem, nothing to take a pattern if you like from !!

Yes I do have the one existing fob. Can just see something happening to it so what to take precautions. too many big puddles about this time of year.

Well, the end of the story has come ......

Just got off the phone to alarmremotes.co.uk who have checked and my alarm uses a 'rolling code' of which its not possible to get the fobs any more or have one made ! so the only way the alarm is going to be of any use is if i stake out the car and throw it at anyone who tries to steal it !

It just seems bonkers that in the 21st century, we are sending probes to the outer planets , and yet no one can build me a f***ing alarm remote for a 12 year old alarm !!!

Excuse my language, i'm just really annoyed !

There!! Rant over ! back to work !

Thats exactly how I felt when i was told Scorpion dont make them anymore still got a specialist to try so before you do anything drastic wait till I find out from mine what can be done.

I like you refuse to accept in the day and age there is no one who can copy a remote. Its all a load of bo   ox.

And a money making exercise after all a fob is what £30 and a new alarm £300. Just forcing us to spend our hard earnt.
