Hi guys, Merc has locked me out again, can gain access to interior with key unlock on passenger side but drivers door and boot won't unlock and battery is dead!

Last time this happened a while back managed to get the Sparks onto somewhere in engine bay which gave enough juice for remote to unlock to gain access to battery in the boot.

Does anyone know where this is and a pic if possible.

Thanks gents.

Not sure what you have on a W129.

Have an r129 2002 500sl

Take the fuse box cover off, and connect the negative from the charger to earth, and the positive from the charger to one of the permanent live fuses. That will give you enough juice to work the central locking so you can open the boot.

If you use a starter/charger rather than a trickle charger, there is a risk that a current surge will blow either the fuse in the OVP (if you have one), or one or two of the fuses in the base unit (which I have - 1994 model).

You have a base unit if you have an alloy box passenger side rear in the engine bay; the box contains several ECUs. The base unit is the one with the blade fuses on top - it's either the very front or very back ECU, but my notes aren't clear so I'm not sure which...

Details on how to open the boot are in this thread, it will probably feel quite stiff as it has probably never been used!

What you could also do is feed 12V into the cigarette lighter with the ignition on. I had to do this when I closed the boot on the BMW with the battery disconnected

Thanks for all the replies guys. Do you think one of those little jump starter things could feed charge through the cig lighter?

Yes, if you can turn on the ignition to position 1.

Will the key blade not turn in the lock or will it not fully enter the lock key hole?

The diagram is of the boot lock not of the ignition?

I can turn ignition any position it just won't fire up but boot won't turn and indarent try again as last time it wouldn't give the key back lol, locksmith rebuilt it and that much gunk in it no wonder.

I may go get the blade copied and then try it, that way if it keeps the key least I have a spare

I mean you have to turn the key in the ignition lock to position 1 so that the cigar lighter is able to receive power from the charger.

If the key has identical ridges on both sides and is not broken or bent then copying won't change the situation.

Yeah I can turn ignition so that's good to know. Is it safe method?

Key doesn't have identical ridges each side, see pic.

No I mean the other side of the key blade, if you look at the other side of that blade, it will/should be identical to what you see in your picture.

In any case, there is nothing wrong with the key blade if the key blade works in the passenger door lock and the ignition lock and it works the glove box too, then its likely the door lock would benefit from some WD40, its probably seized due to lack of use.

The boot lock, if it has not worked since the locksmith was at it then its best not to touch it as it must not have been repaired properly if the key blade is getting stuck in the key hole.

Squirt some WD40 in all the lockes.

Have you got a few pictures of the engine bay, maybe someone can identify the jump points you said you used before.
