Can anyone tell me if it is the same alternator fitted to a c class 220cdi.
and a e class 220 cdi, and if the pully is the same.
my belt is jumping around on tickover and i have been told to replace the pully.

any part numbers would help.

cheers

It's probably cheaper to change the pulley, if you want ot do it yourself the various P/Ns needed are:

Pulley (freewheel) – P/N 611 155 0415

Pulley socket tool – P/N 602 589 00 10 00 (serrated wrench 17 x 20 mm DIN 5481 / waf 17 mm)

Screw Driver bit -P/N 601 59 00 10 10 (for counter holding alternator shaft)

They say it can be done without removing the alternator but I have yet to do it myself. I have read from previous articles that the Stealers charge about £130 for the job.

hi
before any seriouse expence, note how long your drive belt has been on, thay stretch with age/mileage this can cause undue movement,
you can check against a new one. otherwise preiviouse posts apply.
good luck,..

Your drive belt may need a replacement, check the ribbing for cracks and if so replace. The vibration at idle is almost certainly caused by a siezed free-wheel clutch in the alternator pulley, it is a well problem with an MB Service warning published about it. It is easy to check, remove the drive belt and check that the alternator pulley free-wheels (does not turn the alternator shaft) in the CCW direction and turns the alternator in the CW direction. If it is solid in both directions then it has failed and will be the root cause of your problem. Also check the EGR valve , this can soot up and stick open at idle also causing bad idle.

would i be right in saying Tamrsoft that you too have had problems with the alternator on your E220CDi?

If so what went wrong?

I could really do with some help as my Alternator has packed up? and my car is sitting like a duck on my drive!
