I have parktronic.... could i just fit skirts or would that be silly

approx £2200 according to amg brochure.....
i think that price may be only when ordered with a new vehicle and remember to add the dreaded vat :)

the dreaded is included. you should be able to order the parts - the brochure does list part numbers. i've had facelift bumpers fitted to my pre-facelift SLK. I inquired about the AMG parts and they were more than happy to supply the info, but I decided it was a juuuuust beyond my budget. ;)

yeah it is alot of money, but then if you did buy new at least the parts would be ( or should be) a perfect fit

was it MbenzNl selling some a few months back for silly money?
yes...1250 euro (excl. 19% dutch VAT) for a new set (both bumpers and boths skirts)...complete with foglights - new - have to be painted (sets consist of various colored parts) - excluding shipping...the only piece missing is the cover in between of the foglights in the front bumper...
I have skirts for the coupe and conv...and have front bumpers with and without headlight washer openings...

greetingz,

hi MBenzNL... please PM me with price for just the skirts for 1999 pre-facelift CLK convertable.

thanks

If you can see my car in the members gallery, it has some extra skirts put on the bumpers. TBH i dunno where these came from, not sure if its a complete facelift bumper, but looks a lot better than the standard bumper.

Derek,

Looked into this myself and I really only want the side skirts to get rid of the black effect. Contacted my local dealers and they are £155 + VAT each. This is painted price though at least. . . . .

Anyone got a friendly dealer that they get good discount from and who could help reduce this cost?????

Cheers all

sounds ok.... plus i assume the black bit of the front and rear bumpers could just be sprayed the colour of the car... although the plastic here has a bumpy texture to it so not sure if the paint would stick?

Personally not that worried about the front and rear although I may consider getting them painted. I'm sure that they can be prepared and painted - in fact, I seem to remember hearing people say that they have had it done.

someone round our way with an SLK has had the bottom section of the front and rear bumpers colour coded. These are "bumpy" plastic too. I've never seen the car parked up so haven't had chance to have a proper look to see how good the job is. Looks okay on the move - slightly different shade of silver (but that might be down to the bodyshop). Anyway, it can be done.

Simon,

You had your skirts replaced with facelift ones didn't you? I know it was an insurance job but did you get to see the prices?

Also, I am kind of assuming that the new facelift skirts just replace the black ones I have e.g. same mounting points etc - can anyone confirm this?

Cheers

Fair point - well made. Didn't intend to imply otherwise ;)

Wasn't a point - was a joke! :D :D

I had images of Phil Mitchell torching Frank Butcher's car lot!!!!

The facelift bumpers were actually cheaper than the pre-facelift ones, though a few extra bits evened out the price. TBH I don't remember the cost of the parts. The only itemised bits on my bill were the additional items I had to pay for that wouldn't have needed replacing - the ins company were billed for the bumpers. I needed a few extra brackets and new fogs. The lower half of the front grille has different inserts depending on the model (I got 320 inserts :D ). This may also apply to the CLK so worth checking.

I had previously enquired about the facelift parts and the parts dept were happy to provide me with a quote for the parts. Bad omen! :p

The pre-facelift model doesn't have skirts as such. They just have the sills painted black. The skirts bolt onto these sills. This may be the case for the CLK also. I had those parts painted. It looks alright but you can't get the rubber strips either side of the door painted. The skirts cover these strips. I'm hoping to get this done later this year.

Here's a side piccy to illustrate:

This piccy shows how it's just the sill painted - no plastic skirt.
