AMG Bodykit

looks really good Simon - i thought about painting the sills but the car is dark blue anyway so its hard to notice.... hoping actual skirts would finish off the lower of the car. plus my sills seem to be more 'rubbery' texture to them???? whereas the lower of the bumpers are just lumpty textured black plastic - which looks like they could be detached and replaced which was why i was wondering if lower bits only could be purchased.

may enquire at a few bodyshops of their opinion about painting the bumpy plastic..... i know they may require special "plastic" trim primer otherwise it peels....

cheers m8. yeah, my sills were painted with a think rubbery substance - presumably some kind of road debris protection. the sills still have this finish; just colour coded. six months on and everything still looks fine.

Personally not that worried about the front and rear although I may consider getting them painted. I'm sure that they can be prepared and painted - in fact, I seem to remember hearing people say that they have had it done.

Guy

You could get mismatching colours and have an uber-SMART system.

went to a local bodyshop (independent place) yesterday. They quoted £180 to have the lower bumpy-black parts of the bumpers colour-coded.

this included:

labour
bonding primer
metallic paint
laquer

they said the bumpyness would be reduced from the layers of paint but might still be able to see/feel it if u look closely. they said there wouldnt be a problem in it flaking off as long as they use the bonding primer. apparently this is used on all plastic parts such as bumpers etc as if they are flexable (as is the black parts) then it will crack otherwise.

so i plan on colour coding these bits (so should be same as a facelift bumper then) and getting proper sideskirts for the sides. Hopefully this should look really good.

i am at MB dealer this lunchtime however so will find out how much they would charge to spray the black bits. i will also ask if they know of any parts that can replace the black bits. i am sure i have seen front spoiler "lips" that bolt onto the existing bumpers.

I think the Brabus guy for (central) scotland is based at john r weir's grangemouth site. they probably do the lips. Also, Carlsson do them - i have a brochure. uk agent for carlsson is http://www.birds.uk.com/

I took a look at the underside of the front and rear bumpers on saturday and it seems that the "black lower part" of the bumper can be removed. it seems like it is held on with some screws to the body work (supposedly holding the lower part of the bumper in place) and clipped into the upper colour coded bit.

if it can be removed then maybe it can be replaced colour-coded by the dealer?

found more details on the Reiger kit:

http://www.tuning.co.uk/rieger/en-gb/dept_57.html

seems it is bumper 'lips' which is good. bad news the whole kit would mean over £600 before i've even painted it!! so prob around £800 to get the whole kit on, if i fit myself.

dunno if its worth it. may just consider the painting black bits still unless another kit that is just bumper 'lips' is available......?

yes i confirmed this with the dealer today. The lower (black bits) can be taken off and replaced. Also the colour-coded versions from the facelift models after 1999 fit and are for sale seperately, and come primed but not painted.

total for front and rear lowers is a total of £120.

which is really good :bannana:

Ignore this

@KillerHertz

This thread is referring to the CLK . . . I'm sure it was covered in a previous thread for the W202 - you won't be able to fit the facelift 202 lips without seriously modifying the bumpers, or getting facelift bumpers.

AMG side skirts might be a possibility though - although not sure what they would look like without the AMG bumpers ?
