No so fast car now !
Considering buying an 6.3 AMG C Class and have heard Mercedes are having issues with extremely high engine oil consumption on some cars due to internal bore condition.

Possible but you’re much more likely to have issues with the top end cam followers, cam lobes, cam adjusters, head bolts, etc. not common but I’d say more likely than bore issues.

Good timing , Hoovie posted this just a few days ago. I don't think it's typical but defiantly something to keep in mind on an engine using this block.

I saw a problem car on Hooves channel with the Car Wizard in attendance as Petrol Pete posted.
Don't really know how to progress now as I don't want to get landed with a car that has a potential known engine problem.

That sounds good expensive to me.

That’s an M113k supercharged 5.4 litre V8 and is in no way related to the engine in a 6.2 litre C 63. The M113 is one of the most reliable and cost effective AMG engines, however even they will have problems from time to time, even more so with if there is questionable service history.

It was quite pricey but substantial maintenance and repairs should be expected of from a highly tuned engine. The main dealer did the work and I asked them to attend to anything and everything that was not perfect. If you’re handy with the spanners then you could do the work yourself, to reduce the cost.

If you’re looking at cars with the 6.2 litre M156 engine with more than 80,000 miles then I would make sure that (a) it has been regularly maintained in line with the service schedule, and (b) have a healthy reserve in the bank to attend to the top end work I mentioned either proactively or reactively.

You could take the risk if you don’t plan to own the car for too long, and only spend the money if the issues manifest. Alternatively if you need to count on the car or plan to keep it a while then you could plan to have the work done. If you do, it’s most economical to do everything at the same time to save on labour.

Yes , sorry , as Bobby say's this is an m113 engine , I should know ...Iv got one  ! and it has covered 153K miles and does not burn an alarming amount of oil.

Here's what you need to see. Head bolts are important, on a high miler they would probably have been replaced by now. The title of the vid is a bit misleading but Alex (as an ex MB tech) covers the know issues.
