Many years ago when I visited the AMG factory when they still did custom work on peoples cars, they were fitting out an early W211 E class with the AMG sound system. This is 1 step above Harmon Kardon but only AMG could do it, although there have always been references to 'option 811' in the parts list. (811 now used for B&O sound system upgrade).
Now that AMG does less custom fitting, we can do it
Its officially for cars with HK already as you need all the wiring, and they have versions for NTG1 and NTG2.5. The amplifier ends up in the boot on the right hand side under an extra cover on the W211. But of course we can install it in cars without HK by adding the HK wiring loom
Its all new amplifier, speakers etc, so not a cheap outing as but I remember at the time it sounded stunning.
It can be done in W211 Saloon / Estate and W219 CLS
