AMG W124s?

Anybody knows the modifications AMG did on their W124 models? I know the engines were swapped, usually for a V8. But what else besides engine and bodywork? It's hard to find info on this online. Some of the cars are very rare. The C124 WB only had 12 units made.

Thanks for the input.

The V8 is the rarest actually, more Straight 6s about.Don't forget though that they are all Automatics :D:D

Oh I don't think I would be buying one. They are very rare and I hear they can go for over €100K. Definitely out of my price range. I was just curious. Just trying to learn more about these amazing cars.

But they are not all automatic at all. There are some very rare manuals. AMG made them to your liking. If you wanted a manual it seems they would do it. I think it's still the case. After all you are paying a lot. I'm sure you can choose.

There was a very rare coupe widebody for sale in Holland last year which was a 5-speed manual. I wonder if it has the same getrag.

Up to the early 90s yes but after that,no manuals on offer

I see.

I guess the ultimate 124 is an AMG Hammer. I specially like the C124 version.

Wish AMG would have info about their historical models on their site. Do you where I could find more info on the modifications AMG made on the 124? Looked around but couldn't find much.

On here ;)

There are two members that have owned hammers, one still owns his.

Oh, cool.

Hopefully he will jump in to share some info.

By the way, how many tuning houses like AMG were there doing 124s back in the day? I only know of AMG, Brabus, Koenig and Lotec.

I doubt the owner of the hammer will be along anytime soon,he's hardly here of late
Don't forget Carlsson Lorinser Mae.....AMG was the one though, even Brabus and Carlsson started from an AMG car and made it even better

I remember looking at an E36 estate at Western in Edinburgh a number of years ago , alas I couldn't get the deal I wanted to trade my then 3 or 4 year old 300TE against it . It was Nautic Blue as was my existing car , so would have been a stealthy upgrade .

As I recall there were only something like seven E36 estates in the UK .

I have a 1995 E36 saloon.

I also have a few scans of some magazine articles with the Hammer featured. PM your email and I will send them.

Oh yeah Carlsson.

AMG history seems to be quite interesting. It seems not all AMG cars from the 80's and early 90's are super modified monsters. It seems you could send your car to AMG and get just a body kit without any mechanical modifications. So not all AMG 124s will be full on AMG. Some have the stock Merc interior and gauges but AMG engine and body kit. Some just the body kit and no AMG engine or interior and so on.

Palfrem, could you post pictures of your 95 AMG 124? I will definitely send you a PM with my email. Would love to get the article scans.Thanks.

Talking about Hammer, it seems not all AMG 124s were considered Hammers right? Is the requisite to be a V8?

Talking about body kit, you used to see them all the time on Ebay UK. Not sure if they were real AMG 124 body kits or replicas. But now they don't seem to be around. Can you still get AMG or AMG look-alike 124 body kits?

Very nice!

Is this a second generation AMG front bumper? It looks different than the usual AMG front bumper on the 124. The rear one looks the same.

Very nice car. Any pictures of the interior or the engine?

I thought this was the case. But I have seen pictures of facelift cars with the old bumper.

The black one has a facelift bonnet as I doubt it's a late car,the blue one has the correct bumper

You might see more facelift cars with GenI,mainly down to people putting what they can get as the GenII is much rarer

Yeah, I posted the blue as an example of cars before and after facelift with the same bumper.

This one too:

I have also seen a 4-door facelift with Gen1 bumper although can't find it now.

I thought maybe AMG just had left overs and fitted Gen1 bumpers on facelift cars or maybe customers like the old bumper better. It seems to me it was all pretty loose at AMG in that time period and if you would commission a full tiger fur wrapped interior you could get your way as long as you paid.

But you have a point that it could also have been changed by the owner later.

By the way, did you see my getrag reply to you in the other thread?
