Used Android auto for the first time and could only get it to work by plugging my phone in. Is it possible to connect wireless and automatically so I can just leave my phone in my pocket? Thanks

The native Apple CarPlay / Android Auto that is fitted to your W213 is wired-only.

The rationale behind it is that you should put your phone away while driving (in fact the original Aux/Media port was inside the glove compartment, to get the driver to lock away the phone while driving).

There are after-market Apple CarPlay / Android Auto kits that use Bluetooth, but it's not worth investing in it (~£500) given that you already have the functionality in the car and only need the Bluetooth.

Hi
You can buy dongles that will allow you to connect wireless for the OEM stereo now, look on Amazon not sure how good they are though.

I had one, it uses an FM transmitter to streaming music to the radio (if that's the dongle you had in mind), but it's only for music streaming. Quality over FM is okeyeesh.

Its a dongle that allows the phone to connect to the stereo wirelessly and allows normal operation of Apple Car Play/Android Auto.
like the one in the link,
Most of the dongles are for Android head units, but there are a few that are for the OEM systems like the one in the link above but they seem to be quite a lot more expensive than the Android head unit specific ones.

This is great, didn't know it existed! My car doesn't have Android auto, but seen it in hire cars before and always frustrated by the need to plug in the phone. Glad to know someone has a designed a solution for this!

Thanks guys, and for the link for the dongle. That looks like the perfect solution.
