While out and about yesterday afternoon, the brake warning comes on in the cluster - not the big, ominous red one but the brake wear one.

Not usually a problem - book it in, get it done in a couple of weeks - but we're off to Spain on Wednesday so the timing could have been better.

Phone the lease company this morning who call back to say that the deler can't do it and I'd have to go into Kwikfit. Hmmmm. So I phone the dealer and explain the problem. No problem sir, bring it in now and we'll check it out and get it sorted.

Slight problem is that I have a meeting this afternoon, public transport not an option. "OK", says the dealer, "let me see what I can do."

Calls back about 10 mins later - they can't let me have a Benz as they are all out, but can get me a Seat Leon from their sister branch if I didn't mind that. I'm OK with that, so tottle over to give them the car.

"Really sorry about the Seat sir", he says. "I've got a bay cleared now so she can go straight in and should be all sorted for you by the end of today." The Seat's fine, 800 miles old, don't worry about the fuel, so I'm off. I said that I'm unlikely to get back before they close at 1800 - no worries, we'll give you a call when it's done and either arrange to drop yours off, or you can come by tomorrow and collect it.

I've never really rated MB Gatwick and prefer Brighton - but this car has always gone to Gatwick and so was my first port of call. Place looked busy, yet they were happy to squeeze me in and help out, even with a leased company car. So hats off to them - assuming they get everything sorted.

That's good to hear. To be honest I've found my Mercedes-Benz dealership surprisingly good.

My first impression was poor as i visited MB of Sheffield, who to be honest, being a young customer, i got the impression i was looked down on and they thought 'you can't afford anything from us'.

I popped across town to MB of Chesterfield and it was a complete different story, couldn't me more helpful, so i bought the car from them,

Coming from Lexus i was quite skeptical and whilst not as good as the Lexus dealers they have still be excellent.

We read so many put-downs of dealerships on most motoring forums. I think it is about time we gave praise where it is due. I hope they get your car fixed and have a super holiday in Spain, you have probably earned it. :bannana:

So just to tidy up the story....

Dealer called at 1630 yesterday (while I was in the meeting) - voicemail left to say that the car was finished and if I was around I could pick it up, but that the next day would be fine.

So trundled round today - with wifey and kids (who wanted to try out the Seat) - to pick up the car. All done, pads and discs all round (which seemed a bit much for 45k miles, but I'm not paying), washed, hoovered and ready to roll. Kids even got a couple of t-shirts "to wear on holiday" - probably giving away the Vodafone McClaren now anyway, but a nice thought.

I did leave drool marks on the black satin finish of the SL "Night Edition" (I think) that they had in the showroom...

So full marks to MB Gatwick :)
