Per the title I have enjoyed a trouble free year of motoring in my old CLK with nothing in the way of expenditure other than an oil service.

However, MOT time today and the car seems to always find a different way of failing the emissions test (at least it has for the past 3 years). Last year it was the left bank upstream oxygen/lambda sensor causing the lambda readings to overshoot.

It was somewhat trickier than it should have been to get resolved last year as the back street garage I used for the MOT did not have any diagnostic equipment. Anyway, they finally got a Bosch sensor which was correct in every way apart from the end plug so this was sliced off the old one and fitted it. :wallbash: Did the trick in any case, lambda back in spec, MOT passed and improved MPG to boot.

This year I am suffering from excessive CO - around 0.39% (limit is 0.30). Other readings are fine:
HC - 63 (limit 200)
Lambda - 1.011 (limit 1.030)

I guess I am going to have to find my way to a STAR unless anyone has any foolproof ideas on what could be causing my excessive CO? Air filter is recent and totally clean.

Should say - I also fitted a new Bosch MAF a few months before the oxygen sensor replacement.
