C180 Coupe Panorama
I was wandering if you could help me out. I’ve got a C180 coupe '01 and ever since I’ve had it (four months; second hand), it keeps stalling whenever I reverse. More recently, I have had to resort to using one set of keys to open my car and another to close it, not to mention the fact that only one key actually starts the damn thing in the first place. I’ve been quoted about £60 from the main dealers for a replacement. Does this sound right???

£60 sounds a lot but its not if you ask some other car owners. I had the same trouble with mine until it gave up the ghost. Get one b4 you are shaffed. And dont forget your passport at the stealers. :bannana: :bannana:

That one's always struck me as interesting...

Got asked for ID when getting a new key for the SL. All well and good, but my mum got her licence before the new photolicences were a twinkle in the eye of some bureaucrat. And what if she never went abroad, and so never applied for a passport?

Suddenly the only 2 forms of ID that Mercedes accept are non-viable. We asked them that while they were checking the passport, to a reply of shrugged shoulders...

£60 for a key, I would rip their arm off, I payed £120+VAT ish when mine went and its only the infra-red key with no radio part to it like the newer ones, god knows how much that would have been. They did give away a little secret though, key testing, put you mobile phone in camera mode and then press your key button while looking at the red part of the fob, it should show up as a purpleish light on the phone as they can see infra-red and our eyes cant. Thats all MB do to test keys a think. You can impress your friends like I did when I found out, all the TV remotes got tested etc,

£60 for a key is about the same as what I have just paid - interestingly (or boringly) a keyless go card (old style) is only £40 - more technology packed into a smaller space
