I am looking at purchasing an S-Class 320 Cdi SE 2004 model.

I would greatly appreciate any advice from the current owners. What is economy like? Is it a reliable car? What should I look for?

I currently own a CLK 320 (1999) model and it is very reliable, as the S-Class so cheap now I am considering the upgrade option.

Go for it. Smooth economical engine, good mechanicals and the body work by then should be galvanised. Check it was built in 2004 to be sure. Rust on the arches is an issue for non galvanised cars.

Economy should be in the mid to late 30's. Check the electrics etc, there is an awful lot of them

Mine is the newer model, but a friend has a 2001 S Class with 1/4 million miles on it ! He has had to change the cats, but that is it other than regular service.
As a cost effective relaxed mile muncher I can think of little better:D
