Hi all

I am thinking of moving on from my 1991 300CE. Can anyone give some advice re it's value, before I make my decision!

Basically, it's a 1991 300CE in Anthracite Grey. Interior is cream cloth. I have updated the wheels to the 8-hole alloys from the E Coupe (although will probably include the full set of original 15 holes with the sale too).

Mileage is apx 115,000

Bodywork sound - usual slight rust patches on front wings and the odd scratch but nothing major. Interior good - wear in drivers bolster (about 3 inches square) but otherwise OK.

Has working aircon, all windows work as does sunroof. Drivers side seatbelt extender extends but doesnt always retract so I have disconnected the relay for now. Not sure what it needs to fix - probably justs someone more technically savvy than me :D Also has a good SONY face-off stereo with 10 disk autochanger in boot.

Recently changed all ignition components, filters and oil. Runs really sweetly, pulls well in every gear. Starts every time.

Rear tyres brand new Goodyear Eagle NCT's. Fronts have plenty of tread but they are a cheap make (came with alloys) and I would probably change for peace of mind if I was keeping the car.

Pretty honest car all round really.

Any idea as to what I could get for it on e-bay/autotrader/forum?

Cheers

Adam

Post some pictures of the interior and exterior, might give us a better overview

This is a difficult one. I'm not saying that I'm an expert, I don't think anybody is really, but I've owned and help other people purchase ce's, so I know a little, as well as owning a few other models as well.

I'm going to honest here, so don't be offended, you asked for opinions, remember.....

First of all cloth is a major 'turn-off', especially if not spotlessly clean and in good order and style. The '8-Hole' alloys, although commonly thought of as a 'upgrade' is actually a 'downgrade'. The 15 hole were more expensive when purchased new and were generally fitted to the 'sportline' version. The seatbelt retractor not working is just another thing that will put people off, and cut your price, plus it will make them think, 'what else is wrong'? And make them look even closer. You say the A/C is working, make sure it is, because if you say it's working and it's not, watch out! This can make a person walk away, because they will see you as a liar, or unfamiliar with the car, so in other words making them think, 'what else is wrong with the car that this guy doesn't know about'?!

I'm saying all this because this will in the end lower the price.

Also having different tyres will effect a buyer attitude, another 'why'?

Colour is another factor, black being usually the most sought after.

Also you didn't mention about it being either a 12 or 24 valve? The later commanding a higher price, usually.

Price; anywhere between 900 to 1600. I helped a mate buy a 1993 'K' 300ce-24valve in near-perfect condition, everything worked, and I mean everything. it was a 'goldy' sort of colour with leather electric seats with not a mark. And the A/C worked well! It was one of the best I have ever seen as a standard 'ce'. Not 'pimped' just very well maintained original.

He got it for £1450.00!!! Oh, and it had 10 months MOT and 4 months TAX!

That will give you some idea I hope.

But a lot of it is down to luck, who wants what when, and if you've got something someone wants, then hey, you're in luck. If not, sometimes you cant give it away.

And photos, lots of photos, especially of the interior. And be honest....

Cheers, and good luck.

Bill.

Thanks Bill

Apprecieate your frank response - I agree honesty is key. And I am! The AC definitely works - I just spent £300 having a new condensor fitted and the system re-gassed to make sure that it does. As I say, can include the 15 hole alloys so buyer can choose.

As for the tyres - I have explained why. I agree the lack of leather is a shame - they definitely are better with leather.

It's a 12 Valve. I must admit I had heard the 24 Valve engines were more problematic - but I guess horses for courses. They are certainly faster!

I'll post some pictures soon....

And forgot to mention, it has MOT until May 2008 and Tax until February.
