Any ideas? SLK auto

The SLK autobox is acting up.

The last 2 mornings it's showed up a fault. From a cold start it seems to leap into gear, either R or D - need to brake hard to stop it moving forward.

Then refuses to shift up from 1st. Stubbornly remains on D on the dashboard display despite moving the gearstick left and right to shift with tiptronic.

If I turn off the engine and restart all is well.

I've 10 months warranty remaining so not stressed but if it's something simple like a dirty electrical connection that I can do I'd rather not have the bother of putting the car back to the dealer.

Cheers

If it's under warranty get the dealer to do it. If ti turns into anything else you could jeopardise your case for them doing it ;)

Sounds as though the gearbox ECU maybe playing up, you still got warranty so make the most of it.

Thanks guys.

How weird is this?

The dealer phoned this morning to ask how the car is going!

Booked in for the gearbox and a couple of little things like a dashboard bulb and the aircon isn't too cold.

Cheers

I know it's been ages since I posted the problem but I do think that if you post a problem you should have the courtesy to let others know what the solution was.

The car became undrivable 2 days before it was due at the dealers, I phoned mobilo who sent a transporter and a replacement car to my house within hours. Happy with the courtesy car, delivery mileage E class estate (from a hire company, not the dealer, I refused point-blank the PT cruiser that they tried to fob me off with!)

Car was fixed in no time under warranty and the problem was most simple - the battery needed replacing. New battery and all is good again, the car was even valeted while it was with the dealer.

So, if you have an SLK with a gearbox that seems very sick it may not be as bad as it seems.

That's great news and also good info should any fellow SLK owners experience similar issues! Ta:D

Funny enough mine did exactly the same thing when I bought it last year and the battery kept going flat every 5 days or so. Changed battery and all was good, no more autobox problem as described.
