Anyone had a plugin chip from "Chipexpress"??

Thinking of gett my 2009 C250 remapped. just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to whether to get a custom remap or whether the plug in chips are any good?

Seen the Chipexpress one for £395 as an example!

I've done some research previously, and the general consensus seems to be that a custom remap is always going to be much better than a plug-in chip.

Any further advice on the chip? A friend has offered me one for free as he has upgraded his C220 CDI to a C63 and no longer needs it. Do they damage anything in anyway? Is it traceable if taken out?

I had a software remap on a 320cdi engine, same price as you have been quoted for a physical 'chip'.
The software remap leaves no physical evidence, and according to installer, Clive Atthowe in Norwich, its difficult to detect, even on a Star check.

I once tried a chip in an Escort XR3i back in the 90s.

Did it make any difference?

Did it f.

It seemed to make it slightly more sprightly to start with but that was probably psychological.

In fact, when I came to sell it, I took it out and the car felt more sprightly.

I always understood a remap was better as it is done to suit your car but at the time, it was a lot more expensive - but as in earlier posts - your talking similar money now.

There are insurance implications with the remap, but I would venture the plug in one is a waste of time given my experience...

JohnEBoy - there are plugins and plugins. The Brabus D6 III I have makes are clear noticeable difference to performance (when I put the foot down) or economy (when I don't put the foot down).

It was more the increase in MPG I was bothered about.

Don't bother with add on's, if you want a map get it done properly.
