We are looking for a Toyota IQ CVT for Mrs R and have seen one advertised in a dealership in Norfolk.

Only trouble is we live in Cardiff. Therefore, a potential nine hour round trip.

Is there anyone on ohe forum over that way who would be happy to give it a quick once over and possibly a test drive to alleviate our concerns about buying a car long-distance?

It's in Watton. Fresh Motors IP25 6JB

If you ask all the right questions and get a written response and it's a main dealer all should be good. I'm in Glasgow and the 3 cars on my drive came from Portsmouth, Bognor Regis and Huddersfield. Flew down drove home, no issues with any car.

It's not a main dealer.

They have many, many rave reviews on the review sites.

However, when asked written questions, I get evasive, not to say deliberately deceptive, responses, such as:
"How many owners has the car had?"
"Just one former keeper."
"By that do you mean one or two previous owners?"
"Correct, two"

And

"What is the condition of the bodywork - are there any dings or scratches?"
"There isn’t anything that stands out in regards to dents, ding or scratches, for a 6 year old vehicle its in remarkable shape"

I have no idea if that is a yes or no.

It may be an immaculate car, but I simply cannot tel from what they've told me so far. I asked for details of the service history and just got a list of dates and mileages. No mention of whether those services were Toyota Main Dealer or Joe Bloggs under the railway arches.

Hence my asking if anyone local would be prepared to look at the car for me.

I suggest that you keep on looking for another...
Thank you. I think so too now.

After pushing on the servicing and bodywork questions, they have come back and just copied and pasted the response on the bodywork and finally admitted that the service history is all independents bar two.

As Toyota dealers are so well-priced for servicing, that knocks it on the head for me, especially as their screen price is significantly above the highest that Glass's say it should be for this car and mileage.

Thanks to those who have taken the time to reply. Much appreciated.

Well I think you are right,it is a small motor dealer, and he does ask top money for his cars, those white IQ's had dodgy paint issues when they first came out in 2009, bit like the red MB's but thats been cleared up,I spent twenty minutes this morning trying to see how I could look up this car ,I will be near Cambridge for most of the next 7 days, just cannot find the time to go there in the daylight, best to find one more local.

We have a 12 plate pearl white IQ and in November we noticed the paint was peeling off the roof, after googling pearl white IQs and found that nearly all white ones up to 2014 ( when they stopped making them ) had this problem, I headed off to our local Toyota dealer expecting to have a fight on my hands to try and get them to admit that this is Toyotas problem not mine, when I got there I was seen straight away and 2 guys came out and checked all over the car and informed me that it is defiantly a white IQ problem and that they will book it into their bodyshop and it will have a bare metal respray free of charge and a courtesy car was provided for the six weeks that it was in.

Got it back after Christmas and it looks brand new, excellent job and a very good experience dealing with this Toyota dealer

Good luck finding an IQ, they are a brilliant little car

That's good to know. I thought the peeling paint problem was only on the 2010 and earlier models. Maybe we'll just avoid the white ones. Love the car though. Thanks for the first-hand recommendation.

Hi from Norfolk, only just seen the post, normally I would be willing to help, Watton is around 35 miles from me.

At the moment I have a very sick pet that needs constant monitoring and attention as this may be the final days/weeks for him.

Good luck in your search.

Robin
