BJV Engineering are excellent and very good value for money.

The are based in Flaunden just a few minutes drive from M25 J18 so may not be too far from you.

Home - Wheel Refurbishing

Have done many sets for me over the years and I've always been happy with their work

Lepsons are very good in Medway, about 15 mins past Dartford crossing

Cheers guys how much do you reckon I'd be needing to pay for 18" size wheels per wheel

Prices are on their website in the link I posted but around £45 a wheel including VAT for 18" wheels. If you're leaving the tyres on and want them stored/refitted/balanced plus new valves then it's £9 extra - to be honest I'd ask them as I don't remember paying that much extra with tyres in the past :)

I've always taken the wheels in and left them.

They do have a few ramps now and you can leave the car with them if you book in advance but it's not something I've done personally.

They're a bit a trek from civilisation (ie out in the sticks) but it's a nice drive there and no traffic, nice guys and they do a thorough job

I think they used to do a collection/delivery service to certain areas - might be worth asking depending on your circumstances if you decide to try them.

Yeh to be honest I'd rather drop the car off but I don't have a set of spare wheels :(

Best option then is to find/use somewhere who'll keep the car on site, or just buy/borrow a spare/temporary set of wheels - loads of sets of CLK wheels around and probably others that will fit - SLK/C-class etc :thumb:

I've used Wheelworks in Crawley several times and have been very happy with their work.

In that case, you might want to consider a company, which offers loan wheels, or one that does like-for-like swap.

I was in a similar position, and opted for the latter, which also meant only a single trip to London, and a total of about 40 minutes on site.

The colour and finish were agreed in advance, of course. Couldn't be more pleased with the result and service, and attention to details.

£288 all in, for four 18" AMG III wheels. And a free touch-up bottle :thumb:

First Aid Wheels in West Hampstead, London.

Just beware: it's an extremely tight spot, although there's always someone "directing traffic" - see the chap on extreme left:

Prestige Wheel Centre in Birmingham is good for wheels refurbishing! An hour from Northampton.

They have loan wheels too.

Contact Sean. Tell him you were recommended by me (Boon). He will be able to do special price.

I have also used Wheelworks in Crawley. Always excellent service. That do offer a same day turn round service for a set of 4 wheels. Drop car at 0800. Use their loan car - VW Polo last time i used it - and pick up again around 1700.

Lepsons are good / Quality / beware mobile services

Lepsons are much respected, and have a network of agents who can store your car / put on temporary wheels while yours are being done.

When choosing a refurbisher, as with all things you get what you pay for, if you pay the cheapest price, you may well get the cheapest quality.

Friends who've used mobile refurbishers who come to you and refurbish onsite, have "mixed opinions" about the quality of the result.

A friend uses a mobile van-based unit to keep his £150k Bentley's wheels immaculate - it seems a strange economy to me.

Cheers guys I'll call around

Bang on the buck of what most charge to powder coat £60+VAT per wheel.

Yes, I thought the price was reasonable and the quality of work is excellent - even the weights are powder coated, they did extra metallic content, and a lighter shade of anthracite for me - all without additional charges. :thumb:

£288 for just a powder coat finish seems a bit expensive to me, perhaps not so bad if it includes tyre removal and refitting/new valves/balancing etc.

Otherwise that's 60% more than BJV - not sure I can see the justification, maybe down to their location (more expensive overheads?)

Certainly BJV do a very thorough job - fully stripped to bare metal and refinished inside and out. Agree 100% on the smart repair/mobile refurb route - seems to me like a service used mainly by traders and people returning fleet cars etc - wouldn't use them myself.

Regards the weights being powder coated (!) what do you do when replacing tyres :o
