Hey folks,
Ive found a Merc that I really want. Its an old w123 and im thinking about buying it. Only problem is that its in a garage in Leamington Spa and im up in Dundee!

Just wondering if theres anyone from the area that could maybe pop round and have a look at it for me? Its a really long way to go down only to find out that its not quite as good as it was described.

If anyone could help out then it would be greatly appreciated! :thumb:

That's a real shame, as I live in Warwick, 2 miles from Leamington, but work in Norwich during the week. If you had asked me yesterday there would have been no problem.

If no one else steps forwards sooner, then I'd be free to view it next Sunday.
Do you have a link to the car?

Oh bugger pal, that would of been perfect but im kind of hoping I can get down this Sat if its ready in time. I would stop round with a couple of beers for someone who looks at it for me and I end up getting it :)

Have you got the details, I'm not too far away but I would need some pointers as to what to look out for.

The garage is called Golden Acre Car Company and they seem to deal quite a bit in mercs. The address is:
Soans site
Sydenham drive
Leamington spa
Warwickshire
CV31 1PH

Here is a link, just hope no-one jumps ahead of me!

Golden Acre Car Company - Showroom

It is the 6th one down on page 2. Dont know of any specific things to look for either but just wanted to know that it started on the button and there wasnt any bad bits of rust coming through. Guy says there is a few bubbles but nothing major.

Thats the one mate :bannana:

I had an old w123 200 and it was the best car i ever owned! Sold it at the beginning of the year cos it was getting a bit tatty and bought a ford focus ST which ive had nothing but trouble with!

Really hoping this one will be as good as my last.
Opinions on this car are welcome, its a good bit more than the £500 I paid for my old 200 but I think it looks a good one. What do you guys think?

I could look at it Saturday. Actually, I could look at it Friday, but it would need to be after work.
Could also pick you up from Warwick or Leamington Station if that would help.

Ted that would be class. :thumb:
Im in two minds whether to just book a ticket now while they are cheap. Think its about £60 to Leamington Spa but its the same price to fly into East Midlands airport so I might phone the guy tomo, see if he'll meet me there if its not too far.

Its a bit of a hassle trying to sort it out but im planning on keeping the car for a long time so hopefully it will be worth it.

Let me know, I'll pm you my number
edit - can't pm you - you dont have enough posts.
E-mail me at ted at budbrooke.com and I can reply

Sorry Ted, but you can't PM him as he has less than 30 posts.

Maybe an Admin can open up this facility, considering the gunuine and generous nature of this thread.

EDIT: I've sent the Admins a message.....so we'll see.

This car has been for sale for months - It was advertised at £1995. When I was looking, I rang the seller. His name was Charlie and he was unhelpful. He couldnt tell me if the car had rust, and reminded me frequently that the car was old and I shouldnt expect too much. He knew very little about the car.

I made an arrangement to go and see the car early on a Sat morning. It was 100 miles each way, and we agreed I would call him before I left my house (at about 7am). I rang him half a dozen times that morning, he didnt answer and never returned the call.

I hope the car's great and that you have a better experience with the seller than I did.

This is worrying! Thats my worst nightmare, either I dont get a reply when trying to phone or the car is a banger.

Ted, just emailed you :thumb:

received and replied! :)

Aw Howard I seen you car and REALLY liked it but was out of my price range :( That typical ebay for you with the timewasters!

Yeah the guy at golden acres says the price in negotiable so im hoping to get a bit off it.

Where abouts is Bracknell Howard? Near London?

Thanks; Bracknell is slightly south and about 25 miles(ish) west of London. A bit of a trek from your location?

Yeah little bit of a trek mate.

Just an update folks, Ted very kindly offered to go and view the car for me. When I spoke to the seller to arrange this he said the car had been moved to a garage in Rugby for the mot. I asked for the name and directions to the garage but he said he would phone the garage for an update first and he would phone me back. That was at 10:30 this morning... Im still waiting on him returning my call.

Something doesnt seem quite right
