Anyone wrapped their car?

Getting my roof wrapped tomorrow by Yianny

I am considering a wrap. Anyone wrapped theirs?

PWPro highly recommended if you looking at full wrap.
pwpro.co.uk

monsterwraps and bossdog is good too. But cannot commend on full wrap.

I quite like the idea. However, what happens with things like scratches? Funnily enough, they had the Top Gear episode on TV the other day where they wrapped their cars.

On satin wraps, some scratches can be polished out. Some not.
Deep scratches will need the wrap for the particular panel redone.

My friend had a wrap done, I cant remember who by. It was a reputable company though... Anyway it started to peel of and he look underneath and where it was cut there were scratches all over the car.... Anyway in the end he went through the insurance after they accepted liability and got a full car respray.

I like the ideas of some wraps, however wouldn't risk it, plus I like cleaning my car!!

Aquaintance over on porsche968uk had his 968 cab wrapped 'cos his wife did not like the "purple blue" original colour - so he went slate grey. Within 6 months he'd had it removed, IIRC 'cos it was peeling. He's in Whitley Bay, BTW.

Ive had 4 cars wrapped now and there all still holding up well. The first one was a w208 clk convertible that has lasted 3years now and still looks like it was just done. They key is to find someone to do it properly. Im lucky as my mate does all my work for me, its all down to good prep work and decent quailty wrap.

Yup I've been wrapping cars as a hobby for about 5 years now. My current daily GS300 SE L) is wrapped in 3M matt metallic silver, my last SL500 was matt grey. I was going to wrap my SL55 in a light blue but decided to bite the bullet and sell for a C63! Beauty of the matt wraps is that you rarely need to clean them!

As said above prep is the key

Couple of said cars i've done in recent months... (you can tell i'm a matt grey fan!)

Looked into getting my wife's Freelander wrapped last year - got a quote from a company who had an "advert" car parked at Brands Hatch. At just over £1400, which didn't include door shuts etc - I thought it was too expensive.

Ouch, that sounds like a hell of a lot. As a guide companies should only charge an additional £200 or so for door shuts.

Too much for me certainly - I could get a re-spray for less than the wrap quote I got!

Most definitely, pro's and con's either way against the wrap or respray so down to personal preference really.... :)

Was watching this video on youtube recently.

It's a spray on product that is applied directly to the untreated original paintwork( after being thoroughly cleaned )

It can be removed by simply peeling it off. Original paintwork beneath is not damaged.

I've seen a few cars with this done to them but up close you never get the real deep glossy look of a painted / wrapped car! Very good idea though....

When I bought my last car (RS Megane) it had the bonnet wrapped which looked pretty good and in good condition.

Unfortunately the wrap had been on the car too long I assume (about 5-6 years) and suddenly keeping it outside meant the wrap weathered badly the first year I owned it. Ended up having to have the bonnet re-painted as the glue from the wrap just simply would not come off.

I suspect if you have your car wrapped and remove it within 3-4 years it would be fine, plus I suspect vinyl is better than it was 8 or so years ago.

My only worry with having an entire car wrapped is where they cut the vinyl on the car. I'd be worried having scalpels near my paintwork!

It all depends on the brand of vinyl used as to whether it lasts or not..... A lot of the cheap ebay stuff is rubbish, I would only stick to a handful of brands such as 3M, Hexis or Arlon.

With removing it you are right in saying it can take the paint off, it needs to be properly removed with the right amount of heat. Also if the car has had a crappy repair / paint repair (even unknown to the owner) removing can take the paint off. Its very nerve racking removing wraps, I HATE doing it! I sold my Audi S5 and he wanted the wrap off so had to remove vinyl off of the whole car - took 4 hours! Scratching is a wrappers worst nightmare as well!! Its all down to experience plus you can buy cut tape now which helps!

Saw a cls63 wrapped pearl white at Saint pod the other week... It looked awful, you could see where the wrap had been cut in load of places...

Im seriously thinking about wrapping the bonnet roof and boot on my C class
There are so many pros and cons and then colour my mind is going to explode
