Hi all.
Hope you can help me please.
I have a Merc A Class 180D Sports Exec 2018.
I purchased a new iPhone 14 and was told my car will connect to the Apple Carplay.
After trying to figure it all out, it seems that I need a software update as my car doesn't have this functionality..
Is this correct? As I thought my car would have this function especially with the spec and the year of manufacture..
I then contacted Mercedes Me and they are saying it will require a software update at my local Merc workshop.
So, would appreciate some help to validate if this is correct..

Thanks a lot
KJ

Welcome.

I am assuming that your A-Class is the current model, W177 (released in April 2018). If so, then the infotainment system will be either the entry-level Audio20 NTG5.5 with the optional Garmin Map Pilot navigation on SD-Card, or the higher-end model COMAND NTG5.5 with built-in navigation.

In either case, Apple CarPlay is an option, that your car may or may not currently have.

First, run your car's VIN in an online VIN decoder, e.g.:

and generate the car's Datacard.

Then, look for these options:

If your car already has these, then you have Apple CarPlay. If these options are not present in the car's Datacard, then you'll need to purchase the Apple CarPlay option and have it retrofitted to your car.

This involves a software update as well as updating the MB central computer (a process known as SCN Coding), and a licensing fee.

This can be done by Mercedes dealers, or by independent specialists with the correct equipment (MB STAR diagnostic computer with active subscription). You can get a quote by sending an email with your car's VIN to [email protected].

Hi morning.
Thanks so much for getting back to me on this.
I will definitely check and get back to you.
Have a great Christmas weekend.
