I agree, it's almost like these prices are a publicity stunt - oops!

Early pre-facelift car, not the ultimate SL60 IMHO - I wouldn't think it was even worth half that.

If it was up for genuine bids at an auction, would it even make £10k?

Sheikh/sultan ownership alone doesn't really raise the price, celebrity ownership does. Only reason Sultan/Shiekh ownership raises price is usually due to the numerous and outrageous extras they commission. This car seems to have none of those.

Taste aside (!), this Sultan sure has had a lot of cars. Wonder who puts all these miles on them - because I'll bet the Sultan can't drive around Brunei in a drop-top unless his troops have imposed a curfew.

I assume that means the draft shield that attaches to the roll bar (which was standard on all R129s).

Curious, one of the other 500SLs that MCP is selling is a car I went to see on a private sale last year in June (the blue one). Great seller by the way, chucked me the keys and said come back when you've done!

Car was ok but with some small defects (cig burns, noisy wheels) and 4 years of history missing, gave it a miss. Shortly after the seller lowered to around £6k, I see it has been on MCP's site for a few months now at over £7k, not bad for a wash!

It was an optional extra on the early cars - a bit daft given it's a convertible .
