Correct and exactly, a step to far with that one. Best thing is for Andy to report it.

Well spotted Gina - has anyone sent Andy a PM or email?

eta - I have ;)

I've reported it to ebay for good measure.

Well, you would probably need to book a flight to the African continent mate as I very much doubt they are local. These scammers are predominatly Nigeria based and work by hijacking accounts of unsuspecting ebay members and them scamming them for as much as they can. They also drop in viruses or bots or something which scans your computer for any fiscal info so probably best to let ebay deal with it.

These auctions happen all the time on ebay, and now that they have your photo I would not be suprised if the car is sold many a time..

Thing is though, no-one is stupid enough to believe it is really being sold for just £500?!

How do these scams work? As the buyer, you'll never see the car in the flesh before you hand over the dosh so I guess only the gullible get scammed by sending their money beforehand? What kind of buyer would do that kind of thing these days? Even the most stupid people can't be that stupid surely?

I was seriously thinking of contacting this seller and following through with the sale. Surely we must be able to meet the seller at some point. These people really make me mad

That was a typo. I think he meant to say £5000 but even £5k is a silly price.

What worries me most is there will be someone gullible enough to think they are getting a bargain. Lets hope ebay step in soon enough.

Ok, so I may be completely way off the mark here but again I recognise this car (on here?) but the ad doesn't read that well to me.

My apologies if it is genuine, I read into things way too much! :o

And for £500???
Top marks again Gina.

I'm a generous type of guy, so rather than let the middle man take his cut.........

Andy,
I'll give you £600 cash to take the car off your hands!

Congratulations on spotting it, but we all know nothing will be done, other than removing the advert.

WHY isn't more done to prosecute these criminals?

John

These auctions are usually aimed at new ebay buyers who dont know the score and see a cheap car and think thats mine - all it takes is one email to get the buyer hooked. Probably begin to agree to a meet which gets cancelled and then other excuses but the seller asks for a deposit if not all the money before doing one.

Its what they do to your other accounts that is worrying because the information held by ebay can be used to clone your ID.. which is probably where it gets worrying, always best to have a regular credit check against your name and address just in case.

They are scumbags in every way possible and nothing more than dirty thieves but no doubt are very rich and successful.

Ebay cannot contain this - it happens all day long and because of the volume, ebay struggle with this. They are all probably offshore and the police cannot be bothered picking this up.

Ever made a complaint to ebay? Try it..

As an example, pick some high end brands, watches cars etc and search for them everyday for a week say and moniter to get an idea of how bad it is.

Personally, I hate ebay. I do use it as there is really nothing else out there which has the customer database and ability to sell at "reasonable" costs but ebay is becoming more expsensive to use.

So basically some dirty scumbag will be selling my car over and over again making huge profits and theres jack sh!t they can do about it ???

Makes me wonder were we are heading in this world honestly.
