I usually have tyres delivered to my local garage for fitting, but couldn’t get the Asymmetric 6’s for the SL delivered for anywhere near the ATS fitted price. Really wish I had followed my gut instinct and paid the extra. ATS managed to strip 6 of the wheel bolts claiming previous damage!
The last time the wheels were off was at the service at my indie back in August. Reckon I’d have lost the wheels by then.
Gingerly drove it to my indie and they were able to retap the threads and supply new wheel bolts.
A complaint to ATS got the standard denial so I submitted a section 75 claim with my credit card, and this morning had confirmation that my claim was successful.

Classic poor practice at the tyre bay. What usually causes it is fitment of bolt into socket of wheel gun, then gun applied to wheel and car without manually starting the thread. I really don’t know what goes through their heads…

My thoughts exactly and the opinion of my indie who’s report helped swing the section 75 refund
Mark.

For most purchases between £100 and £30,000 where part of the cost was paid for by a credit card the card issuing company also have a liability if the goods or services are faulty etc.

You can submit a claim to the card issuer and they will, if the terms and conditions are met, refund you.

my first job out of school was a tyre fitter back in 79, only did it for 6 months before i started my apprenticeship as a mechanic, but a tyre fitter is a dead end job tbh !!!! no real skill in it but taking off dirty smelly wheels all the time is not nice, especially when they've been through dog shit or the like  and i can see doing it full time for years it would get you down and you loose any reason to care !!!!! and they show the apprentices once or twice and then get told to get on with it ? not an excuse by the way just saying how it is.
I take my car and bike wheels to a small tyre shop run by two bikers who have some pride in their work, and they only work 3 days a week.

I know not everyone can do this , but I take the wheels off myself , both cars and bikes. It's a sad state of affairs when a youngster isn't taught properly to do what is the first and most basic job (most) any driver should be able to do for themselves in an emergency, and the company he works for charges you for his service.

Never had an issue myself.... the tyre places I use for the work vehicles remove them with the gun ( as I do if I'm working on the car at home)...start them with a very slow gun to make sure they are not cross threaded and spin them in on the gun with a light torque setting....and then torque then correctly with a wrench.
I'd be pretty concerned about the threads your indie retapped. The hubs are usually cast iron and the threads pretty brittle. Once knackered they usually stay that way....
