Attempted AMG theft...fuming..

Is the CLA so much bigger than the 1-series? And are you sure that the 1-series is at less risk?

I understand that it's a stressful experience but I'm not sure you will be any less of a target with a 1-series.

Your probably right it most likely is and yes the CLA is a fair bit bigger but anyway....
I got in my car to drive to Bmw yesterday and thought WHAT ARE YOU DOING? You love this car! I drove it to the dealership and loved every second and then spent 2 hours discussing various options. I also had half an hour in an M140i. I sat there looking at figures and all the shiny cars around me and thought get back in your car and enjoy it!!! Why should the scum bags force me to give my car away!
Instead of throwing thousands away swapping my car I'm going to spend it making my garage bigger and putting bigger fencing and electric gate across the drive! I hope to always have a nice car in my life if possible so it makes sense to beef up security. The BMW felt like a very quick family hatchback not atall like an AMG! I hope I'm making the right decision? Lots of cars are being targeted in my area, if it's new and relatively expensive it's a target so I hope they won't be back.

A friend of mine had his Mercedes stolen a couple of years ago in similar circumstances. They walked around the back of the house, mid afternoon, broke in, took the keys and drove off. They then spent most of the evening using it in the surrounding area to steal other cars and commit numerous burglaries. The offending car was identified by witnesses.
At the time I was a traffic policeman working that night. It took me a couple of hours driving around in an unmarked Volvo xc70, but I eventually found the car parked in a lay by with the 3 offenders chatting away inside. I put the volvo in front of the Merc so they couldn't go anywhere, jumped out and emptied a cannister of CS over the three of them before being joined by a colleague with a very large, very angry alsation.
I handed them over to cid and, they went to court the following day and received the usual pittance of community service,
My friend however, did fit electric gates and has had no further bother.

Selling the car to get something less flash, is just admitting defeat and letting the tossers win. Im glad your keeping it.

I don't want to be negative but if they want that car they will be back! I know someone who had his house broken into twice looking for the keys to his Porsche, when they didn't find them they came back in the middle of the night and took the keys off him in person and took his quad bike for the inconvenience.
You might be lucky if they were just joy riders they won't be back, if they're professional? Well good luck!

If it's any consolation to the OP, from what's been written here they didn't look very professional to me !
