Auctioned Today - Estimated £390k - £440k

Got VAT on top of it too !!

I would buy that if i had a spare half mill knocking around , pretty much my ideal car.

Absolutely gorgeous, recall seeing that in Autocar a few weeks ago. Very nice...

I might be speaking heresy here but take a classic car and what a classic and lose all that was classic save the shape and shoehorn in something modern and marvellous. Keep the classic to be appreciated for what it is and then release the updated copy as a new car from AMG. I sure it drives and sounds wonderful.

Everything about that car is stunning, except the wheels. They look so wrong.

The idea is aesthetics from the 50's, mechanicals from the 00's......The wheels step out of that formula and stick out like a sore thumb.

Totally agree Mudster, when I first saw it, I thought who the hell put those alloys wheels on a 350SL, then I realised it was a new car. I like the idea, a bit like the Ford GT too, but I would take the original ANY day of the week, regardless of whether it was worth more or not..

Is it just me or is there something wrong with the first pic of that SL. You can see a passenger side mirror near the wing and one on the open door...

Anyway - nice car but I find it a little odd. The wheels just don't go, would have been better off with the originals or some modern wired wheels. Also the steering wheels looks a little too modern for the car. If I had the money for this kind of project, I would want almost no visible clues to the modern tech on the car.

Interesting that the AMG Gullwing sold for more than the original one.

I was going to post the same comment as azaman.
I think the first pic has been photoshopped, the gullwing door on the far side just looks wrong, plus the mirror.
Why oh why would you do that at this level ? Crazy
