Audi to overtake Mercedes?

This is sales, so I'm not surprised as I see a lot more Audi's on the road than BM's or Mercs.

When it comes to class and reputation, we all know the order:

1) Mercedes
2) BMW
3) Audi

At least for me it is :D

So the Chinese prefer BMW and Audi...no taste. MB have already broken their own record, so no problem really. MB are more niche than the other two...for the more discerning buyer...all good news.

Innit.

Not surprised that an Audi is overtaking Mercedes. Every one of the things sits on my bumper with it's stupid lights glaring away.

VW have a big manufacturing facility in China but I think the real reason is that the have more smaller and cheaper cars than Mercedes

It is amazing that Audi sell so many, they have very few cars in their range that are actually good cars, sure they may look nice and the interiors are pretty nice, but to drive they are not brilliant at all.

The audis might try to overtake but most of them are heavy, gutless petrol or diesel repmobiles and frankly don't cut it in the traffic-lights grand-prix ;)

In the UK, at the end of Oct, Audi and BMW were neck and neck at 99K registrations. At the end of Nov, BMW was a couple of thousand ahead. I would imagine you'll be able to get a VERY good deal from either manufacturer this month if you take a car from stock as they try to out-do each other for the end of year figure.

Mercedes is way behind in this competition.

While looking something up recently I was amazed to see that the base model A4 1.8 petrol will do 140 mph!

BMW Sales Dept Maths...

BMW says that it could sell a record 1.6 million vehicles, having already sold 1.25 million through November.

Now in my book 1.25/11 * 12 = 1.36. Adding in an extra 240,000 sales in December above the monthly average of 113,000 is going to take some doing.

Might go and see if Mercedes will do me a new E-coupe for ten bob between Christmas and New Year.

Working on it having a Cd of about 0.27 and a frontal area of about 2 metres, it will need about 175-180Bhp.

Mercedes short changed their customers in the late 90's early 2000's and lost market share. They are struggling to regain that share with better quality products again but instead of "surfin the waves" as they might have been doing they are "swimming against the tide" along with their rivals.

Not far out. Just looked it up again. The A4 1.8 TSFI actually comes in two versions, one with 120 PS that tops out at 129 mph and the other with 170 PS (168 bhp) that does 143 mph.

Its perhaps a little unfair to compare Mercedes with AUDI since AUDI is part of the much larger VAG group and must benefit from the "economies of scale" membership of a conglomerate conveys. Perhaps it was these pressures that forced Mercedes into that ill judged liason with Chrysler and their latest toe in the water " relationship" with Renault.

More interestingly look at the top speeds of the two power output versions of what is the same car.
120Ps does 129mph
170Ps does 143mph.

170/120 = 1.41, or 41% additional power.
143/129 = 1.10, or 10% faster.

Just shows, dunnit..!!

No surprise really. Everybody I speak to says MB rust, lots of Audi taxi drivers round here did have MB. I ignored them a bought a 57 E class , guess what? Corrosion !
