I noticed last night that my rear view and offside/right wing mirrors were both dimmed nicely when some twit came up behind me with very bright lights, but the nearside/left wing mirror didn't dim?

I would of thought both wing mirrors would be auto dimming, or is that my mistake?

Is it jut a case of replacing the glass once I raise this with my MB Dealers?

Cheers
Chris

I think all near side mirror do not dim, it's something to do with safety issues (if dimming system fails, mirror goes all dark...)

They all fail in the bright position. Power darkens them.

The safety issue is that you might not see cyclists, etc if your nearside mirror is dimmed. The mirror not being in your line of sight like the RVM and O/S WM are means dimming isn't so necessary either.

They also don't dim if you've got fog lights on.

So it's faulty then?

Near side doesn't dim, had mine replaced under warranty the whole gubbings and the mirror as well. Like the old one the new one doesn't dim.

However, this must be Mercedes thing as I know someone with Skoda and all the mirrors dim!!!!

Spooky. I've known for years that passenger side doesn't dim but never knew why. It makes sense now.

Ta very much. :thumb:

Thanks for your reply's peeps.

Strange that it dims in previous cars I've had and not this one.

Ta Muchly ;):bannana:

As already said, it's seems to be a Mercedes "thing". The wing mirrors on my Phaeton both dimmed at night and I never flattened any cyclists.

There's nothing to stop you from fitting a dimmable mirror glass from a LHD car on the nearside. Wiring might already be in place if you're lucky!

FWIW both door mirrors on my 2011 CLS DIM. Not sure why your would be different.
