auto kickdown

hi all when kicking down how far should the engine rev up before it changes back up a gear the cars a 97 c200 only i used kick down to pull on to a duel carrigeway whick was on a hill and it reved to 4500 then i left my foot off the gas a bit and it changed up is this normal i know they rev to 6000 any one have any info cheers

In kickdown, full depression of the throttle the change wont happen until the red line (6000rpm) If you lift before this it may change before this. I'd say what happened is entirely normal. Try not lifting next time.
