Automotive Photography

My camera was mounted to the tripod that was on te back seats. I then used a remote to start the exposure. :)

I thought as much, but if the car bumps then surely you'd get a blur.

As good as yours are, they are a tad soft.

His are clearer, perhaps he used a smoother road, or had some sort of dampening or rig that had some give to keep the camera level.

I tried from the passanger seat to do this sort of thing and really failed...

This was IMHO my best attempt

Fast shutter is ok but bland

But this is too soft

They are indeed. I've only tried it that one time so never perfected it. There's lots to do to improve things. Since I've had two kids I've not had time to do it, all my gear is just sat gathering dust!

Looking at OPs again I think they are over exposed if anything but very good indeed! Some impressive stuff there.

You need to do it at night so you can have a longer exposure or use a 10 stop filter if you want to do it in the day.

I attached a Manfrotto suction cup to the glass of the sunroof and then attached a Manfrotto Magic Arm to that. The camera was mounted on the magic arm but it was also braced against the passenger seat to reduce the amount of bouncing around.

I set up my remote and camera to repeatedly take shots so that I could concentrate on driving and just leave it to get on with it.

I tried a bit of this stuff, not automative, just trying for high quality shots. I really loved it for a few years. But to produce shots like these, takes real talent, forethought, planning and great post production skills. The great thing about photography though, is if you go out buy a great body, top of the range lenses etc, they will lose you little value. All my DSLR and pro lenses have since been sold on Ebay. I have replaced them with a small Leica and i take X4 more shots than i ever did before.

Ksten, clearly has the knowledge and aptitude to take the time to produce quality shots, IMHO they are extremely good, and brilliant use of the light.

Can we get some more pls?
