For anyone who hates the new Autotrader site format (like me and all my motor dealer clients!) here's a link to the old site that they're keeping for those who prefer it! :)

Buy a used Car - Auto Trader UK

I agree much prefer the old site. Thanks for the link.

Thanks!

I HATE the new one with a vengance.

When I saw a preview of it I assumed they'd accidentally released an early buggy version and thought no more of it.

Imagine my shock when that that turned out to be the production version.

It's trully unpleasant to look at and to use.

Excellent - you've made an old grump slightly less grumpy. :)

The new one is slower and breaks my PC (some fancy script on it goes awry).

It's so bad that one of my dealer group clients has actually reported a huge downturn in site visits and phone calls via Autotrader. This downturn has exactly matched the launch of their new site! Seems a lot of users have turned off!

Stylistically the old site isn't much to look at, but at least it's fast and works properly and not full of irrelevent banners that slow down it's opening even more!

Thank you ! I cannot stand the new site .......................

New Site

It seems to be that since the new site was launched people don't like it and have logged on less.

I know the web design company who build the site for Autotrader, 2nd Byte, who I've worked with a few times on the Jardine Motors group site as they created and manage the stock database. They are a young bunch of techys who revel in making sites as complex and techy as possible, with not too much thought for customer ease of use. It's time they heard the views of a lot of Autotrader users!

Young Techies

Young Techies seem to revel at the fact they can make sites confuse and annoy us oldies.Little do they realise that if we can't or get fed up trying to use their new sites they'll soon be out of work. They don't seem to grasp the idea that new sites are supposed to attract more customers not put existing customers off.

Exactly!! That's why after 10 years, I'm still building motor trade sites, including an official Ford Transit site that's been on page 1 of google for nearly 9 years! :) (brazen plug, I know, but shows that older guys like me, producing simple but easy to use and properly SEO'd sites can still cut it in these young techy times!) :bannana:

It's all so wrong. The colours are foul. They bleed into each other and overlap unexpectedly seemingly at random. I've usesd Autotrader rather than E&M for years as it used to be simple, elegant and easy to use. I spend more time on Pistonheads these days. It's got fewer cars and limited search but at least it doesn't burn my retinas.

Thanks for the link.

I prefer the old site as well. I think the new site looks good but it's really slow and sometimes causes my PC to crash.

Business for me has been really bad since the new site was realeased, so much so I have just this month cancelled dealer edit.

That's the same story most of my dealers are telling! 2nd Byte could be getting a kick up the ar*e soon! :thumb:

They should do, I was consulted on the new website when it was in user acceptance testing, I told them to leave the old one as if it's not broken........

So much for UAT.....

Yup!! Various Jardine dealer staff were given the same opportunity and said, leave it as is - and what did they do.... (I just noticed you're in Guildford, a stone throw from 2nd Byte! Maybe you could go in and give them the kick....) :D

Yikes!!! my post count is 666!! OOoer...

Just spoken to another dealer friend of mine, he has decided to pull the plug also and use ebay motors pro plus ad-hoc pay and play Auto Trader.

I think alot of small time dealers that have been propping up the Autotrader with the expensive websites and fancy vehicle listings are leaving, perhaps the market dominance of the AT is over?

Who knows.....

I hope so!! A long while back I lost one of my independent dealers to AT, based on the fact that they seamlessly integrated the AT feed etc. He's not so impressed now and has asked me to take over the site, again. I maybe daft, but I'm not going to! :D
