Awaiting Soco...

Out of interest, how do insurance companies view theft from a car in such a state?

Will they honour a claim?

I don't know, I'm not reporting this one as my car insurance is horrendous already and my home insurance excess is too much to bother claiming for the personal items that are missing. It would be three claims too (car for the tools, business for the monitors, home for the personal stuff) so three excesses.

but the button has to be pressed for over 2-3 seconds,...

unlikely?

We reckon the dog did it (one of our dogs sleeps in the bedroom with us, my trousers were on the floor with key in pocket)

Can't help but feel sorry for your situation, it's something that could happen to a lot of us on here.

Maybe we'll take a bit more care....

Interestingly, just had the police back round returning my tyre inflator, found a few streets away next to another car (Lexus) that had been left unlocked and emptied of its contents.

We'll see if anything else turns up.

Similar thing happened to me a while ago, and they were kind enough to shut the boot so I didn't realise anything was up until I got to work. Problem was the stuff they took was from work, and worth more than the car twice over, but useless/worthless to anybody apart from me. I found some of the less obviously valuable stuff(paper work) in a neighbours garden, but no sign of the rest after scouring the streets and skips locally. Coppers came eventually but as there was no evidence or signs of break in, decided not to fingerprint as wase of time and money. Wasn't best pleased, and didn't bother mentioning to insurance.

Unfortunately it was my "spare" 19" lcd, so it wouldn't hurt. They'll be annoyed when they discover the laptop they snagged has no RAM, no HD and a keyboard full of coca cola.

And hopefully the 2 bags of Haribo will rot their teeth and they'll have to have some very painful dental treatment !!

Sorry to hear of your misfortune

On today's Register, this article is worth a read, as are the comments by readers.

The consensus seems to be keyjammers are here and do work.

you could set a trap and wait in the bushes with a tyre-iron ;)

"A quick search of the internet shows that devices offering to jam car locks are easily available for around $100."

Wow, rich criminals!!!! They still use house-bricks round my way!!!!:(
