B class 1.3 2018
Hi all,

Hopefully someone could help me

I have an 2018 B class 1.3 petrol which went for service at the local garage, they advised the air con compressor is seized so will need replacing, is this a big job to do myself? Is there a guide anywhere?

Thanks

It was a really isn't a DIY job.

You need to recover the refrigerant before opening up the system, that's a legal requirement and that needs specialist equipment. When the compressor is changed you need to check the system and recharge it correctly.

Had you not noticed that the air conditioning wasn't working?

I can take it to get the refrigerant taken out first. Is it just a case of taking off belt and unbolting the unit, is it easy to get at?
Hadn’t noticed the AC not working, it’s winter here
Thanks

No idea if it's easy or not but you would need it refilling after having had it checked for leaks and the correct amount of oil replaced etc.

I doubt that you would save much.

Why would winter stop you noticing the AC working? It isn't just for cooling it also dehumidifies the air.

Ok, thanks for your help

You will likely find corroded fittings, you would also need to replace the O rings with the correct type etc.

Some jobs are best entrusted to experienced professionals 👍
