Go into your local mb garage and give them your chassis number. They will usually give you the code for free.

The pin code is stored by Mercedes benz against the chassis number the comand unit was originally supplied into.

You need to ask the person you bought the comand from to supply the PIN but they probably don't have it. You will be lucky if your local dealer gives you the pin. To unlock the comand the car needs to be put onto STAR and run through the initial startup procedure, this goes online to Mercedes in Germany and checks the chassis number. If the comand was from another car then it asks for the PIN. It wont show you the pin nor will you get an opportunity to put it in on the screen of the unit.

Sorry to sound negative but i'm afraid you are in the hands of Mercedes Benz or a good independent with genuine Star.

We can unlock it for you but we will require concrete proof that the unit came from a legitimate source and is not stolen.

If you bought from a legitimate seller then you should go back to them and ask them to get you the code.

I only supply anti theft protection codes for parts that Comand supply.

Hi, could you please advise how to enter the code when received, is it simply a matter of pressing something to call up the input screen for the code or does the car have to be connected up to star diagnostics, I know someone who has star but its one of those cloned type not linked to MB, would this work, please advise, thanks

Needs to be done using Xentry system.

If it is the NTG2.5 version from the W169, I can confirm that there is an option to enable/disable the security feature using the Developer Mode in Xentry. I have used this to enable the security features on the NTG2.5 I retrofitted to two of my W169. While playing around with the coding, I found that I could disable the security feature without entering the PIN I previously set. However this was done in situ of the car with matching VIN if you see what I mean.

See if you can find a fellow forum that is local to you that has Xentry with developer mode - unfortunately you are not local to me (in London) otherwise we could arrange a time for you to use my Xentry to have a go yourself at resetting your head unit via Developer Mode.

wongl - it wont let you unlock a unit in the wrong car without the PIN. Even in developer

I haven't tried and was curious, hence willing to let the OP have a try on it if they were local to me.

When I have time and back in the UK, I could swap the two NTG2.5 around in my W169 and see if I can unlock them.

Hi, my experience with NTG2.5 in 2008 ML320 CDI. I purchased head unit off ebay and removed standard Audio 20 with phone pre-wire ( bluetooth module in centre glovebox ) When I fitted NTG2.5 I got the security lock preventing it from loading up. Contacted seller who got the pin codes from Mercedes. The problem was that there was no opportunity to enter code so plugged it into a cloned version of Star and opted ( from memory ) for new install and it loaded up and got coded to the car offline, no online SCN codes required or pin entry required. ( problem I had trying to activate reverse camera in facelift ML320 2009 - kept wanting to go online for SCN in 'control unit adaption' I did not want to go down new install route as it was only camera activation and I was fearful of messing the entire coding up and still needing SCN - also an NTG2.5). The 2 issues I had on the retrofit was no radio reception at all, radio amplifier power comes from a different pin in NTG2.5 than Audio 20 and also the inbuilt phone mic was not active, I could make calls and listen but I was unable to respond. To get the mic sorted I pulled back the centre light and found the mic connector on the right side just behind the headlining. I fished a cable from this across the headlining, ( removed the handgrip and loosened the sun visor ) pulled back the door seal and ran the cable down behind the a pillar, removed the side dash panel and fed the wire across under the steering column and into the void for the radio unit. I had to add Block B to my harness ( which I got from an old fully wired harness I had ) and adapted this pre-wired block to connect the mics to pins as photo attached. The power for the radio amp was got by splicing across to the car quadlock harness ( radio amp is black / grey wire ) on Block A, pin 13. The mic cable is available on ebay for 20 euro and makes life alot easier and comes with block B, you may have to add a pin for antenna power pin 7 on block b. The outcome was the unit fully installed and operational. Not that difficult once you know what wires go where.
