What is the part number for the back shocks on a E300TD 1997?
The front one is:
A210 323 5000.
The back?
Thank you.
Olivier

this is a boge part, would that fit the E300 TD 1997?
s/n': 36A180 / 36-A18-0 - Rear L/R
Thank you.
Olivier

you seem to be always doing something - it must be costing you a fortune?

It is costing more then I thought and can afford.
Need new shocks, front and rear
this saturday a second hand diff is going in...
then its new brake pads and discs.
A new wing on the left as the actual one got a hole...
Then it should be it, hopefully, for another 100,000...

Hello Grober, thank you for this, the one that I quoted above would not fit my car then, is it?
Olivier

That's just what I was thinking !!!
Hope it's all worth it.

I had a terrible night to be honest, I am now wondering about this myself as well...
Its a nice car but its dipping deep into the wallet. So far I changed:
injectors/ leak off pipes, right wing ( need the left now), clear pipes, tires, vaccum pump( that needed to be reset at MB), left front light, a fog light, many Orings, wipper, steering colomn rubber, all fluids except for the brakes, engine and gearbox mounts, 3 sets of glow plugs, one manifold gasket, a glow plug relay, had some needed welding at the front , new battery ( under garanty), MB as a goodwill repair both perch, and many trips to the mecanic. I think its about all... But its not over( yet). I forgot, a spring inside the gearbox, rewelded the antenna at the rear windsield, fixed the coil on key number 2.
Defo this car got a lot of new parts.

Just been told that the number above is for self levelling suspension.
What boge number I need is apparently:
36A170 and 36B220

We've two of these 1997 E300TDs ... Both avant-garde.
They're both worked hard.
So far - Apart from general service items - They've not given us a lot of trouble.
Main problem we have with them is rust.
Other than that, they go like a train.

One niggle I have with them ... I've had more punctures in the last 12 months than in the previous 20 years.
Not easy to see why, but it's becoming a bit of a pain.

Cheers.

Sorry I always get fooled when people use TD to mean turbo diesel instead of using T to signify an estate body which would have self levelling.

I thiink you said it all. SERVICES.
The car I have as been trashed by the previouis owner and was looked after a bozo of electrician. Some wiring were badly made to get some power as a fuse was burned but he didn't know where to get them, therefore made a bypass , the fuse for the air bag was took away, as there was too mainy fault and this just needed to be erased with the star, but again, the bozo had no clue. And on and on and on...
Never again would I buy a MB without history, this for sure...
Rust is a bother here too.

I tend to buy them towards the end of their lives and don't pay a lot for them.
They are work-horses for me rather than shining pimp-mobiles.
I can live with a bit of shabby body-work, as long as they do the business.

....... And they are nice cars to own and drive.

I totally agree, mine is no way a shinny pimp mobile, I could never understand who would want to wash their cars on a sunny day... I never do it anyway. I am more mecanical orientated and a machine is a machine. But I like it to be working properly and this is why all this. Hopefully it'll be going for at least another 100,000.
The wing need to be changed for the MOT, as someone could cut itself on the hole, I was told its a failure.

I feel sorry for you; I have covered 180k of the 210k miles in my 124 estate and I have changed less than you have over many many years.

Have you thought about a simpler approach - look for a nice condition one to start with and simply maintain it - trying to fix a previous owners mess is never pleasant.

I know. This is messy. But now that I am in, the question is "when to pull the plug out"?
I'll see on saturday with the diff what the story would be.
If I knew better as well I wouldn't have changed the clear pipes. That was done as MB told me as well as a clueless independant mecanic, only the Orings needed replacement.
The glow plug relay could have been avoided too.
Few other things probably. But hey, its a learning process...
Olivier

You are right - you are now in the perfect position to go and inspect another w210 estate!

Not quiete so soon. I'll leave the plug in for another week. :)
Its a saloon, I actually would love to get an Estate, much more pratical space. Humm, maybe time to look around.
