Bargain E55?

Not a bad price for a facelifit model. Do check the car first for rust all round though if interested.

It's done 125K miles but has a FSH. Are there any usual expensive big jobs on the horizon once this kind of mileage has been covered? Or are these engines fairly bullet proof?

Do check condition of brakes and exhaust as these can be expensive to replace.
It should be super smooth on Idle.
Check for correct operation of gearbox and budget for a Auto Gearbox filter and fluid change if the history shows it has,nt been done.

I like the dark green .. and good price too, especially if you get it for £5k. Remember, no one wants a big petrol V8 at the moment

What kind of MPG are these things capable of?

I presently drive a 2004 Jaguar X-Type 3.0 Auto and average about 22MPG. I get about 250 miles to a full tank....about 60 litres.

It will be ten years old next year and it is a big thirsty V8. Or, it is just half way through it's life as a big, fun, comfy and fast mile muncher. Are you a half full of half empty sort?;)

These things look like an awful lot of car for the money, I can't help feeling it will be a complete money pit though....

I'd say if you commute to work on a train and this is an occasional/weekend car then it's absolutely ideal. Not sure I'd go for it as a daily driver commuter though.

Mine used to get about that as a daily driver, girlie used to get 30 out of it, but then shes a girl, watch out though, hitting the go pedal is very addictive, and never stops being so, MPG will drop to late single figures when pushed,

Ooo I live in Woodford, I may pop along and have a look at this. From the ad wording it won't be Mercedes service history and from the photo's it doesn't look like Command sat-nav either so must be aftermarket?

I spoke to them before. It's the factory APS 30 (?) single din SatNav. It's got MB service history up to a point and then specialist thereafter. It's had 4 previous keepers. It hasn't got parking sensors (not good for my wife!). They claim the bodywork is perfect, no damage at all on the wheels, almost new tyres (6mm) and the interior is very clean.

Unusual colour for E55 .MPG?- you don't want to know my figures! :(.Best to cost it in to overall ownership and cost per mile. But if you do mega miles - a E55 is not good idea.

Which is what the other previous four owners discovered...

I'm definitely a half full sort - my 99 C43 is strolling along at 73k miles. It has one tiny rattle which appears once in a blue moon. Apart from that it's perfect.

Then again I don't use it that much - my office and 90% of my clients are in central London. I can go everywhere else by train.

If I changed it I'd go for either a cheap CLK 55 and get the wife an upgrade to her Clio....or an E500 Est.

As long as people are running miles from petrol V8's I'm buying more of them :)

The mileage seems very high and the colour very unusual. You will probably get parts wearing soon with such high mileage. Also it will be hard to shift when you come to sell it, unless you plan to keep it for a long time.

They are good cars and very reliable. I have had no major problems with mine.
The mpg is all dependent how you drive. I drive mine pretty slowly and can get 27-29mpg. But if you have a heavy foot then this drops dramatically.

Is that around town or on the m/way?

Mixture really, but mainly around town in the weekends and to the supermarket.
If you drive sensibly on the motorways (which can be hard to do) the cars pretty economical.

the 55 V8 is economical on motorway journeys, and dreadful in stop start town traffic ...

see actual readings from my dearly departed CLK 55 below
