I’m torn between these two….

I’m leaning towards the E250, looks like it’s been well looked after but the reassurance of the C Class from a Main Dealer and the twelve months warranty gives peace of mind.

I know neither will really excite performance wise, it will be my work horse covering 350-400 a week. Both have pros and cons for me, don’t really need the extra space of the E Class but I’m assuming it drives nicer than the C Class coupe? But the C Class will probably hold its value a little better and be better on fuel? What’s people’s thoughts?

I'd take the E class. Far better car overall for longer trips IMO.
You'll soon get fed up cleaning that black C class.

I like the C-class coupe, we had this 2015 C220 CDI AMG Sport Premium for about 18-months and it was a really nice drive.

Being Fire Opal Red, it did suffer from micro blistering which is one of the reasons we swapped it for our current C250d S205. The other reason was getting child seats in and out of the back was too much of an exercise in 3D Tetris and way too tough on my ageing back.

It's a fundamental split: practical comfy saloon vs generous two door coupe.

For 20,000 miles a year, mainly on your own, on the roads you typically drive, you know the answer.

Once you've decided on one rather than the other, then find two examples of it: one dealer warranty , one private.

Plenty about, and at low prices, if your local politicians mean that you don't give a stuff about Euro6 diesel.

Personally I like the E class, that one looks as if it is Diamond Silver, if it is then it is the same colour as my S class and I must say it is a colour that really does not show the dirt and dust much, I do have an XJ in dark blue and that does require a lot more cleaning.

E for me......no just because Id never have another black car...EVER!! But the C is the older design generation of car and as good as they are they look far more dated than the 212 inside and out (especially the facelift ones like that). The extra size and boot capacity will probably come in useful too. Two strange cars to be comparing imo.....I cant image many people that are interested in one of those even looking at the other.

Exactly, the two more obvious "comparo's" (to use American journalese)

is E Class saloon vs C Class Saloon

or E Class coupe vs C Class coupe.

I don’t think it’s an odd comparison at all. Two frugal diesels of the same era. Already had an E350 Coupe a few years ago but wasn’t keen on the styling. Quite like the youthful, sporty looks of the C Class coupe but always admired the angular, aggressive lines of the E Class saloon. Hence why I’m taking my time over making the choice…

Two frugal diesels at the end of the day

Get a late 13/14reg c180 m274 petrol w204 on 16" alloys and enjoy the limo like comfort, diesel are horrid noisey complex things in comparision -

i get your point but I had a C180 Sport a few years ago and was far from impressed….

I do good motorway mileage so DPF’s clogging up etc shouldn’t be an issue for me…

The E-Class is the nicer car.

Also, as far as I am aware, neither car has AdBlue, which, if correct, is great. I wouldn't buy any car equipped with the AdBlue system.

On a related note, I am guessing that neither car will be ULEZ compliant - is this relevant to you?

Hi Mark,

No it won’t be relevant to me. I do drive into Liverpool four days a week but that’s all city wise…

Apart from the extra room inside the 212, the layout inside is exactly the same. Both the 212 and 204 are looking dated internally compared to the later 213 and 205 versions. All part of natural evolution. The 204 is one of Mercedes best looking creations IMO, but only the OP knows what will suit him best.

Opted for the C Class coupe….12 months Mercedes warranty swayed it for me
For peace of mind plus still think it looks relatively modern whereas the E Class maybe showing it’s age a little IMO

Shows how different we all are, for me the E- Class looks much more modern.
Anyway, health to enjoy. 👍
