Bas/esp light ml270

Hello any advice very welcome ! Bas/esp light been coming on intermittently had tracking done as I have heard this can affect it , still doing it . Says on diagnostic it's the sensor in the steering column . On ml270 think this is halfway down steering column . Merc dealer say it's a whole steering column needs changing parts alone £650 . But I have seen the sensors for sale on ebay separate from as little as £50 . All parts do a new sensor for £170 plus vat . Is it possible to fit though don't want to buy new sensor then find it's a massive job to take column out then part not fit . Is it the end of the world if this light is on anyway ? Is it dangerous to drive ? Any advise gratefully received

Mot failure, so will need to be rectified, the ml steering angle sensor is a complete column I'm afraid.

Cheap enough to get from a breaker but again, labour to fit it is what will be expensive. Have a quick search on here for indys in your local area, could find a good deal.
