Hi. Need some advice. I brought a c180k Sports coupe 05 plate last monday from a car sales and the salesman said he needed to reset the codes as its just had a battery and alternator fitted but if he did or not i dont know, at least not new, i took the car and said ill remove them myself.
2 days after the car as been fine and the first cold morning i went to pull of and battery/alternator vist workshop messaged appeared but by the time i had got to the top of street it went and no issues. A couple of days later, exact same thing. a couple of days later after it was like minus 2 outside and while i was driving the heaters, stereo shut of and the messaged appeared. after restarting the engine, it was fine so i tested with multi meter next day and there was charge in the battery and was about 3.6v while car was idling.
my central locking as stopped working and the enigne had the code P0620 pending, checked fuses its all fine.
I brought a new battery and i took the car out last night after fitting it to which the voltage before starting the car was 12.2v and about 13.6v while idling. while driving the voltage was about 3.9v - 4.0v with headlights, stereo and heaters on full.
When i got in the car this morning i checked before starting the car and it was 12.6v so clearly it got some charge from the alternator but after 5 mins of driving same thing happened again, heater and stereo lost power and visit worksop. Thanks.

Alternator knackered if it's only 4v while idling, plus that doesn't look like a new alternator? Have you checked and deleted any codes?

My bad lol was supposed to say 13.6 and defiantly not a new one. also im pretty sure the Mercedes part number should be on the black casing so might be a after market part. The car dosent have issues starting up even when its cold.

I would've thought the regulator is the issue,
it seems capable of charging but fails at revs.

I've no experience on these but thought that I've read that they can be replaced as a seperate component of the alternator.

You should have taken it back tot he car salesman before changing the battery. Anyhow, you've only had it a week and fault is obviously still there. The alternator doesn't look new so it may have had a 'new to the car' ie second hand alternator on it. Either way, shouldn't be your problem to sort out.
