Battery Chargers

Got a very brief look at Feb 2007 Issue of Car Mechanics article on Battery Chargers today. Apparently there are now Battery Chargers around that can be used without disconnecting the battery from the car and without risk to the car's electronics. Does anybody know anything about this?

I've always thought it necessary to disconnect the battery to avoid frying the electronics. The downside is that all the parameters head South.

I use a "Ring" battery conditioner...

fantastic as you can leave it on permanently when the car is parked up and will switch on and off as and when it needs to...

The charge rate is proportional to the voltage, these are only OK provided that the voltage does not exeed the 14v running level of the car, this is where automatic charges do not do well, the sense the voltage after a few seconds and the charge rate will cause the voltage to rise to high.

Any charger with a switched output is the best, and OK

yes very similar to the ring one i use... these are ideal i think..

Thanks for your suggestions. I also found this CTEK battery charger via a web search. Seems to do the same job.
